Jazz singer ◆ Songwriter ◆ Poet ◆ Instructor
Cassi Gray is a jazz singer, song-writer, lyricist, poet, and voice teacher in southern Maine. She has a degree in Music Education (choral) and Jazz Performance (vocal) from the University of Southern Maine and has been teaching voice since 2005 to students from 8 to 70 years old. She finds great joy in helping students discover their voice, no matter their experience level. She gives truly personalized instruction in proper vocal technique, musicality, and music reading. She is also available for music theory lessons, beginner piano and guitar.
Cassi is a true jazz singer, who feels most at home with the swinging tunes of the American Songbook, the blues, bossa nova and funk. After 5 years in Rome, Italy, she is happy to be back in Maine performing again, this time taking a seat behind the the keys.
In an exciting coalescence of jazz and poetry, Cassi has embarked on the project of expanding the vocal jazz repertoire with her own original lyrics. This art of vocalese is explored with humor and poingancy through a broad range of topics as directed by instinct and the original music.
As a mother of many small ones, children's music and sing-a-longs are also in Cassi's repertoire. While in Rome, she lead an international english speaking playgroup in children's song and crafts. In her own family, she loves finding folk music gems from around the world that can be sung by all ages and enjoyed for a lifetime. She is happy to lead sing-a-longs in your hometown for your family and friends, upon request.
