Overview:

The Legislative, External Affairs, Policy, and Planning (LEAPP) team needed a dashboard to summarize agency activities in terms of investments and results within each legislative district, county, and structural fire district. This process began with gathering and preparing non-spatial grant data from multiple years, and for multiple grants. Challenges included spatially representing data that was collected with only zip codes as grant areas, which did not accurately represent areas intended for treatment. Much discussion went into cleaning the data. The dashboard shows an interactive map that filters all indicators and widgets to districts chosen from a list. The list itself is filtered to district type via a selector. A year selector also filters the entire dashboard. The indicators include: acres burned, wildland fire counts (created in ArcGIS Pro via Python scripts that clip fire data to each district boundary), and sums of dollar amounts for five statewide, multi-year grants. Stacked indicators behind the initial view display grant descriptions and details, which interact with the map via filtering/highlighting grant areas. The dashboard also has an indicator for legislator contact info. Exportable custom PDFs summarize district stats.

This dashboard allows for the LEAPP team to prep for meetings with legislators, and the grants team to improve their data collection process with regards to grantee reporting.
