As a result, many individuals and their families suffer in private and lack the information necessary to address their issues. The University of Iowa’s Powerful Tools for Caregivers (PTC) is a rich resource of instruction, ideas, and reminders to give care well without running your health into the ground. The National Academy of Scientists reported that “Family caregivers experiencing extreme stress have been shown to age prematurely. This level of stress can take as much as 10 years off a family caregiver’s life.” Do not let that be you. Ask for help. As wonderful as tips and tools can be, reading about how to rest or care more effectively will only get you so far. You need to find your people and build your team.
Powerful Tools for Caregivers classes help caregivers take better care of themselves while caring for a friend or relative.
We have trained over 4,600 Class Leaders teaching the class at different locations around the United States, as well as in Canada and Korea. The curriculum is available in English, French, Korean, and Spanish. The caregiver class is available online or in person, depending on location.
In the six weekly classes, caregivers learn self-care tools to:
Reduce Stress
Increased Exercise, Relaxation, and Medical Check-Ups
Emotion Management
Reduced Guilt, Anger, and Depression
Self Confidence
Increased Confidence in Coping With Caregiving Demands
Community Resources
Increased Use of Local Services

Respite is a service that provides a temporary break from caregiving for the family caregiver. Caregivers need to plan if possible when they begin their caregiving activities to access intermittent breaks from caregiving. To be most effective, you should consider respite services much earlier than you think you will need them. Respite will be most helpful if you use it before you become exhausted, isolated, and overwhelmed by your responsibilities. Respite services can be beneficial, meaningful, and enjoyable to both the caregiver and the care recipient.
The Administration for Community Living was created around the fundamental principle that older adults and people of all ages with disabilities should be able to live where they choose, with the people they choose, and with the ability to participate fully in their communities.
By funding services and supports provided primarily by networks of community-based organizations, and with investments in research, education, and innovation, ACL helps make this principle a reality for millions of Americans.

For more than 70 years, Envision has focused on improving the lives of individuals with disabilities and expanding the programs and services available to them. Our diverse programs are designed to fulfill our mission for our members to have more choices, reside in the community, interact with their neighbors, explore the city, and develop skills that will help them enjoy personal fulfillment.
Envision Unlimited offers Day and Employment programs at seven Chicago-area locations. Day Programs offer individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) the opportunity to engage in their community, develop support groups outside of the family, as well as provide an environment to cultivate personal interests and vocational skills.
Envision Unlimited provides a variety of residential living arrangements and supports to adults with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD).
Envision Unlimited is a certified Community Mental Health Provider offering a full complement of behavioral health services to people with a variety of mental health concerns. We are committed to assisting clients in their best and meaningful lives.
Children with disabilities are up to 3.5 times more likely to have experienced abuse or neglect than their non-disabled peers, and when they enter the foster care system, they have unique needs. Envision’s Foster Care Program focuses on the wellness of each child and supports foster families in providing a safe, nurturing environment.
Envision Unlimited is committed to providing applied behavior analysis (ABA) services to individuals across all the environments in which life takes place. For many individuals, this includes home, community, day, and/or vocational programs. Envision Unlimited behavior analysts assess, develop, implement, and provide ongoing behavioral support.
Our focus is on finding child care that is tailored to meet the needs of each family, helping families determine if they qualify for help to pay for child care, providing training for those who work with children, recruiting additional child care providers and providing relevant consultations in child care programs.

Parenting is hard...
...and no one prepares you for it. Sure, there is a massive amount of parenting podcasts, books, and theories out there today, but they often come with a heavy dose of guilt.
You likely found me because you've tried everything...and I mean EVERYTHING. You are exhausted. It shouldn't be this hard... right?
You want to support your child when they have those big feelings and help them be the amazing kiddo you know that they are. You want your family to feel more connected. To enjoy your child and the time you spend together.
It is my honor to walk alongside kids and families and support you through life's sticky patches. I don't believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to parenting or families, but will work with you to find ways to support your unique child, in your unique family.
I'm so glad you're here.

Strong attachment between the child and the important adults in their life has long been believed to be the basis of lifelong good mental health as well as the mainstay of resilience in the face of adversity. Modern brain research and the field of neuroscience have shown that attachment is how children come to understand, trust, and thrive in their world.

Currently, we offer educational field trips for special education and life skills classes. There is no charge for a school to come and visit the farm. Our field trips typically include interacting with our farm animals, music, crafts, hay rack rides (dependent upon the size of the group) learning opportunities revolving around crops grown on the farm, animal care, and general farm knowledge. We are home to ten alpacas, four donkeys, chickens, a horse, and two golden retrievers.
We also offer social events for adults with special needs all at no charge to those that attend. Some of our events include an annual square dance, cookouts, and campfire sing-a-longs.
We do not take any government funding and intend to always be a completely self-sustaining working farm. Our future programs and current events rely on private donations and fundraising efforts. Blue Ridge Community Farm is a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization and donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. We also always need and welcome volunteers and very much appreciate the support of our community!

The Illinois State Dental Society Foundation proudly hosted its seventh annual Mission of Mercy (MOM) event in June of 2024 at the Peoria Civic Center. This impactful weekend brought together over 1,000 dedicated volunteers—including dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, and dental students from across the state—to provide critical dental services valued at over $1.6 million at no cost to patients. Available to anyone needing dental care, the event was a success, with 1306 patients receiving treatment. The patients came from more than 55 counties and three states. More than 80 veterans received priority care on the first day as part of the veteran-first initiative, a gesture of gratitude for their service.

goblin.tools is a collection of small, simple, single-task tools, mostly designed to help neurodivergent people with tasks they find overwhelming or difficult.
Most tools will use AI technologies in the back-end to achieve their goals. Currently, this includes OpenAI's models. As the tools and backend improve, the intent is to move to an open-source alternative.
The AI models used are general-purpose models, so the accuracy of their output can vary. Nothing returned by any of the tools should be taken as a statement of truth, only guesswork. Please use your knowledge and experience to judge whether the result you get is valid.
goblin.tools is offered free and available to all. It will stay free without ads or paywalls. Mobile apps of the tools are offered at a low price (on Android and iOS), which will help cover the running and maintenance costs so the website can stay completely free. Keeping the tools freely available in a convenient form is a foundational principle to us.
The Place We Find Ourselves Podcast
I met my wife at the College of William and Mary. We have been married for 24 years and have two children, a son (age 11) and a daughter (age 14).
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with Master degrees in Social Work (Virginia Commonwealth University) and Divinity (Emory University). I currently serve as a Fellow with The Allender Center, and I am the host of The Place We Find Ourselves podcast.
My approach to therapy has been shaped primarily by Dan Allender, Daniel Siegel, Allan Schore, Pat Ogden, and Bessel van der Kolk. You can find their works on the Books page.
Activities I enjoy include mountain biking, skiing, soccer, and painting (canvas, not houses).
Example of Podcasts:
Podcast episodes 93-96 and 98 are called "Engaging With Someone Who Has Harmed You" which focuses on how someone can interact with their parent or parents who harmed them emotionally, mentally, and verbally.
Suppose you have come to realize some of the ways that your parents have harmed you over the years. What are you supposed to do now? How do you engage with a parent now that you’ve come to realize some of the ways they harmed you? This is the first of a four-part series of episodes focused on how to engage with someone who has hurt you. Today’s episode emphasizes the necessity of identifying the kind of person you will be engaging. Is the person a normal, everyday sinner? Or is the person wicked/evil?
I’m a clinical psychologist empowering joyful, resilient parent-child relationships by translating neuroscience research into practical and compassionate tools and strategies.
