Cascade RAIN Mathematics Meeting 2020

Attention: the Cascade RAIN Meeting will still be held as scheduled in spite of campus closures; however the format has changed to an online, virtual meeting using Zoom. See also the Zoom FAQ.

Welcome to the 7th Annual Cascade RAIN Meeting

(the first Cascade RAIN entirely in the cloud)

April 4, 2020

Oregon State University

The Department of Mathematics at Oregon State University in Corvallis is pleased to (virtually) welcome all participants to the 7th Annual Cascade Regional Applied Interdisciplinary and Numerical Mathematics (RAIN) Meeting. A detailed schedule will be posted here soon.

The RAIN Meeting is a gathering of researchers for rapid and informal communication of ongoing research activities in computational and applied mathematics in the northwest region. It is intended to complement the annual PNWNAS and biennial SIAM PNW Section meetings, which feature longer lectures by invited speakers. We encourage talks from graduate students.

There is no registration fee, but participants are asked to register, for our planning and records. See also the Zoom FAQ.

Format: The RAIN Meeting begins with a call for speakers. Those planning to give a talk typically write their name and talk title on a strip of paper that will be placed in a hat for a random draw that determines the talk order (this year, talk titles will be sent as chat messages in Zoom and the hosts will determine the order of talks). The talk length is determined by the total available time divided by the number of speakers, with talk duration typically ranging between 10 and 15 minutes. See also the Zoom FAQ.

This format is similar to the Finite Element Circus, the Finite Element Rodeo, and the European Finite Element Fair. Reflecting the varied interests of our northwest participants, however, the RAIN Meeting is not limited to finite element talks.
