This short writing assignment for Science Communication & Public Engagement was my first attempt at writing a press release. Though this is a real organization for a real event, this writing was never sent publicly. The writing in this piece is meant to reach a broad audience and encourage the reader to attend the event.

TBRI Needs YOUR help to further crucial research
Tampa, Fla.– Do you want the chance to get on the ground floor of innovative research right here in the Tampa Bay Area? Do you want to find out more about what Tampa Bay Research Institute (TBRI) is working on? Join us on March 28 at Carillon Hilton for our Annual Community Reception!
Since 1981, TBRI has been conducting valuable research into possible connections between viruses and cancers, and the possible impacts that intervention of natural product-based therapeutics could have. The institute is invested in researching an extract from pine cones that has been said to significantly aid in managing symptoms of chronic illnesses. Researchers at the institute have been able to isolate the molecules most linked to the therapeutic attributes, thus advancing our stage of research. Through this work, the institute is also able to provide valuable hands-on experience to local college students interested in the biomedical field.
At this year’s reception, TBRI is seeking to not only inform you on recent findings but also to ask for your support. Excitingly, the institute is ready to begin pre-clinical trials, which is also one of the more expensive parts of research. About $1 million will be needed each year for at least 4-5 years to continue through this phase of potentially groundbreaking research.
With our existing supplement, ImmunExtra, there have already been numerous positive testimonials. For example, Mike was diagnosed with stage II cancer and, after not improving after many rounds of chemotherapy, began including ImmunExtra in his treatment:
“There was an immediate drop in the blood levels of cancer cells and subsequently, over the next several years, the cancer cell count fell to undetectable levels.”
Please join us on March 28 to hear about TBRI’s innovative research, and consider making a donation to help the institute continue into the next phase of research. We will also be holding a silent auction at the reception in efforts to raise funds for this research!
