It's finally Spring! Here are some songs to help welcome in the new season!
"Here Again"- A Will Away (Here Again)
This song sounds like spring. It’s the song playing on the road trips you can take once again. It’s the narrow rays of sunlight making their return after winter. The song brings a smile to your face from the first note to the very last cord.
"Pretty O.K."- Slaughter, Beach Dog (Birdie)
Birdie has always been rays of sunshine in musical form to me. This upbeat track is no different. From the steady drumbeat, to the guitar to Jake Ewald (vocals) telling the story about Louis, you can’t help but smile when this song come on.
"Washington Square Park"- The Wonder Years (The Upsides; Dexlue Edition)
There’s a good chance this song ended up here because of the line “it’s finally spring,” but it runs deeper than that. Something about the drums reminds me of how we all feel when it’s finally warm enough to be outside again (depending on where you live).
"Homesick at Space Camp"- Fall Out Boy (Take This To Your Grave)
This song has a nostalgia factor to it, maybe it’s because it’s off Fall Out Boy’s first album. But this song brings me back to hearing this album for the very first time…in the spring.
"Disdain"- Knuckle Puck (Copacetic)
This song brings me back to when I was first getting into Knuckle Puck. It was one of the first songs of theirs I had heard. It also brings me back to the Spring before the final Warped tour. Playing the album wondering which songs they would play live. It’s a nice memory to look back on.
"Worst Wishes"- Movements (Outgrown Things)
Definitely not a song you’d expect to see on a Spring playlist but I swear it serves a purpose. In May 2019 I got to see Movements on their first headline tour and this song was part of the set each night. Hearing the song brings me back to that night and all the friends I made there.
"Thank You For The Venom"- My Chemical Romance (Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge)
This song brings me back to a few years ago when I was still learning songs off this album. "Thank You For The Venom" was one of them. I can still remember how the weather was just starting to turn warm once again. For an album so dark, it brings out memories of spring.
"People"- The 1975 (Notes On A Conditional Form)
This is an upbeat song that makes you want to dance, or sing the lyrics as loud as you can in the car.
"Numb Without You"- The Maine (You Are OK)
This album is about to turn a year old at the end of the month, so it’s no surprise the lead single found its way on this playlist. This was a strong lead single and one of my favorites off the album.
"Grudges"- Paramore (After Laughter)
I go back to this album often as the seasons change and the weather warms up. Something in the sonic structure of this song makes me think of springtime.
"Stonehands"- Balance and Composure (Separation)
At the time of crafting this playlist it’s almost been a year since Balance performed their last shows. It’s a bittersweet memory, but their music should still be heard. “Stonehands” can take me back to this time last year when I constantly had their albums playing getting prepared for the one and only time I would ever see them live.
"I Saw Water"- Tigers Jaw (Tigers Jaw)
This song calls back to their early days. However, even though their sound has changed and transformed over the years this song still holds up 10 years later.
"Palette"- Grayscale (What We're Missing)
One of the first Grayscale songs I ever heard. A lot of the songs on this playlist have that theme, the songs bring me back to hearing a band for the first time. I feel that has to do with spring being a time for new beginnings
"Ruby"- Mat Kerekes (Ruby)
This is a song to relax to. After the day is done, or maybe when you’re just taking a break throughout the day this is the song to listen to. The song plays out almost like a lullaby, there aren’t any loud drums or guitar riffs. The song is soothing.
"Rosa & Reseda"- Aaron West and the Roaring 20s (Routine Maintenance)
A little country influence for this pick. This song can instantly put you in a good mood, like the warmer spring weather. A refreshing change from what we have all gotten used to.
