A Legacy of Laughter, Love, Wisdom, and Grace
In Loving Memory of Carol Ollis
Mrs. Carol Ollis passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, July 14th, at Duke University Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in 1962 in Fort Worth, Texas, Carol was the daughter of the late John Frank and Frances Jean Teaster. At the age of three, she moved with her family to North Carolina, where she would build a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear. At 19, Carol married the love of her life, Danny Ollis. Together, they raised four children in Banner Elk, NC, creating a home built on strong values and unconditional love.
Carol and Danny shared a deep, enduring bond that grew stronger through every season of life. Their marriage was a true partnership—marked by laughter, resilience, and unwavering commitment. Whether they were working side by side to care for their family, exploring the back roads of Avery County in the 57’ Fairlane, or simply enjoying a quiet evening on the porch, their love was evident to everyone who knew them. Carol often said that Danny was her rock, and those who witnessed their relationship knew how deeply they cherished one another. Their love story was not just about the years they shared, but the life they built together—one filled with faith, family, and joy.
Carol became a certified nursing assistant so she could provide compassionate care for her grandmother, mother, and father—just one example of the selflessness that defined her life. In her later years, she found great joy in retirement, spending time with her grandchildren—who were the light of her life.
A member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Carol served her Savior, Jesus, through her kindness, humility, and service to others. She will be remembered most for her deep devotion to family, her boundless generosity, and her natural gift for making others feel heard, valued, and loved.
Carol was the one everyone turned to—for advice, comfort, a good laugh, or just to share a moment. Whether it was homework help, a recipe question, or navigating life’s challenges, she always had the right words and a patient, understanding heart. Her calm presence made her the steady anchor of her family.
She was also known for her joyful, fun-loving spirit. Carol cherished spending time with Jake, Luke, and Drew—catching Pokémon, building Legos and puzzles, and riding the golf cart, always with a laugh and a smile. Carol treasured Starbucks runs, endless K-pop home concerts, and late-night conversations with her beloved granddaughter, Bailey. She shared a close bond with her sister and best friend, Kay, and loved family trips to Corolla Beach, NC, where she found peace watching the waves roll in and her grandchildren play along the shore.
Carol’s legacy is one of love, laughter, wisdom, and grace. Her peaceful spirit and gentle strength left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Danny Ollis; her four children and their spouses: Rhiannon and Jeremy Turner, Stephanie and Andrew Cook, Jennifer and Orrie Smith, and Danny and Tori Ollis; and her cherished grandchildren: Bailey Ollis, Jake Turner, Luke Turner, and Drew Turner. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Teaster, and her brother, John Frank Teaster Jr.
Carol’s surviving siblings include Kay Potter; Steve and Patty Teaster; Terry and Kelly Teaster; Phillip and Sandra Teaster; Melinda Williams; and Michael and Heather Teaster. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Carol’s family would not have been able to care for her during her hospitalization were it not for the generosity of their church communities, family, and friends, who gave financially and spiritually through prayers and donations. The family would like to express their gratitude for the blessings poured out upon them during this difficult time.
A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, July 27th, at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 1161 Balm Hwy, Banner Elk, NC 28604. Please designate either the benevolence or youth fund. (Click here)
