Kill TrumpCare, AGAIN!

This is a bill that just won’t die. Because of the rules of reconciliation, Republicans have only until September 30 to finish the job of repealing the Affordable Care Act.

The “Graham-Cassidy” TrumpCare bill has already been sent to the Congressional Budget Office for a score—step one in moving the bill forward (check out our explainer). Leader McConnell is whipping votes and rearranging the Senate calendar to make room for one final push.

And he’s hoping you won’t even notice

TrumpCare, or Graham-Cassidy, destroys Medicaid as we know it, hurts people with pre-existing conditions, and takes away the funding that helps people afford insurance. This bill also cuts federal funding to states for healthcare costs. It then creates “block grants” to give states much less money than they need and has no accountability that the money will actually help people get affordable health care. And to top off this monstrous bill? Every. Last. Dollar. Disappears. After. 2026.

Once again, it’s up to you to kill TrumpCare. Tune in to Facebook Live on Monday, Sept. 18, at 8:30 PM ET to discuss new details about TrumpCare and what you can do to defeat it once again.

What Does Delay in the Senate Really Mean for TrumpCare?

by Wayne Davis, July 3, 2017

Last week the Republicans beat a tactical retreat and decided to delay their vote on TrumpCare until after the July 4 recess.

This is only a temporary victory. The GOP will take another run at things after the July 4 recess. But what happens then will depend on what happens now, during the recess. We have to keep the pressure on.

For us here in Massachusetts, keeping the pressure on includes (a) staying on top of the latest developments, and (b) continuing to let Senators Markey and Warren know that their constituents remain engaged and are demanding a strong defense.

The Indivisible Guide has published useful resources, specifically tailored to “blue state” voters. Check out:

Environment and Sustainability

Protect eleven marine sanctuaries and monuments

The Trump administration is currently targeting marine sanctuaries and monuments to open these previously protected spaces to oil and gas exploration, fishing, and other commercial activities. Some of the targeted areas include

  • Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument off Hawaii
  • Rose Atoll Marine National Monument off American Samoa
  • Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary off California
  • Thunder Bay Marine Sanctuary off Michigan

Immigration

On June 26, 2017, the Supreme Court agreed to review lower court decisions that blocked President Trump’s Executive Order banning immigration from six predominantly Muslim countries (the travel ban). The Supreme Court ruling allows the government to partially enforce the travel ban. Specifically, the order allows the government to apply the ban to an individual without a “bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States.”
