One of the aims of the filmmakers from the beginning of production was to develop the maturity of the films. Chris Columbus stated, "We realised that these movies would get progressively darker. Again, we didn't know how dark but we realised that as the kids get older, the movies get a little edgier and darker."[32] This transpired with the succeeding three directors who would work on the series in the following years, with the films beginning to deal with issues such as death, betrayal, prejudice, and political corruption as the series developed narratively and thematically.[5][33]

Because the films were being made as the novels were being published, the filmmakers had no idea of the story's outcome until the release of the final novel in 2007. Kloves spoke of his relationship with Rowling when adapting the novels by saying, "The thing is about Jo, which is remarkable for someone who had no experience with the filmmaking process, was her intuition. We had a conversation the very first day I met her where she said, 'I know the movies can't be the books ... because I know what's coming and it's impossible to fully dramatise on screen what I'm going to write. But I just ask you to be true to the characters; that's all I care about.'"[45] Kloves also said, "I don't know what compelled me to say this [to Rowling], but I said, 'I've just got to warn you my favourite character is not Harry. My favourite character is Hermione.' And I think for some weird reason, from that moment on, she sort of trusted me."[45]

Once Rowling found massive success, she achieved the Stephen King-like power to publish books of any length, which she took advantage of by making the later novels in the Harry Potter series into massive tomes. Of course, readers loved having more of a good thing, but this also led to fan, ahem, disenchantment with some of the later movies as less of the literary material made it onto the screen.

The epic conclusion and the most financially successful of the Harry Potter movies was acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. In Part 2, the evil Voldemort finds corporeal form on Earth and the peoples of the Wizarding World are forced to choose sides in the final battle of good versus evil.

Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling is once again collaborating with screenwriter Steve Kloves on the script. David Yates, the director of four Harry Potter films and both of the earlier Fantastic Beasts movies, is also returning to helm The Secrets of Dumbledore.

The Wizarding World franchise continues to grow, with a prequel series, an upcoming reboot TV series, and multiple video games, but the original Harry Potter movies remain the most iconic. The original franchise consists of eight films, with each film taking place over the course of a single school year at Hogwarts, following Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and his friends as they grow up - and fight an increasingly vital battle against Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes).

The Harry Potter movies kicked off in 2001 with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and while the first film in the series is generally a light and family-friendly story, as the series continues, the movies become darker, with changes in director creating a clear difference in tone. While there are flashbacks in the movies, especially the later ones, the bulk of the storyline is extremely straightforward, and the viewing order and chronological order match.

The Harry Potter movies' release order is straightforward, with a new film released almost every year, with some two years apart. This makes sense, with child actors as the stars, taking longer than a year or two between each film would have caused issues in terms of on-screen aging. The order of the films also matches that of the books, including the title change of the first from the original British to the American book title - from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the US. be457b7860
