I am an Associate Professor of Economic Data Science (Tenure Track) at the University of Regensburg and a Research Director at the ifo Institute.
My research lies at the intersection of public economics, urban and regional economics and real estate and housing economics. I study how economic policies, taxation, regulation and shocks affect firms, households, housing markets and economic activity across places. For example, my work examines the incidence of and behavioral responses to tax and pension policies, how property taxes, subsidies, and regulatory uncertainty affect housing markets, and how economic shocks and changes in the spatial organization of economic activity reshape cities and regions, from working from home to mega-events. I draw on rich administrative, spatial, and transaction-level data, including property listings, card payment and mobility data, satellite imagery, text, and firm surveys. My research has been funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and commissioned by public sector and policy institutions.
I am a member of the Female Economists' Network (Ökonominnennetzwerk) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) and of the Public Economics Committee of the German Economic Association (Verein für Socialpolitik). I received my PhD from LMU Munich and have previously worked as the ifo Institute's Head of Business Relations and Data Strategy, as a strategy consultant at McKinsey & Company and as a researcher at ifo Institute and the Center for European Economic Research (ZEW).
