With the holidays fast approaching and the COVID-19 winter surge, it is important to enjoy the season in an enjoyable, but safe manner. For most, this means only going out to nearby places that are adhering to all CDC guidelines. Luckily for us, we don’t have to look further than Long Island for some safe, holiday fun. Here are some of the best places to go and things to do on Long Island this holiday season:
Jones Beach “Magic of Lights” Display: Held at Jones Beach State Park, this light display offers a great COVID-friendly holiday activity. It is a drive-through experience in which cars follow a route through the park to view an array of holiday scenes and characters. You can enjoy it from the safety of your own car and the have the luxury of not needing to wear a mask because the experience can be fully enjoyed from inside your vehicle! This holiday light experience is going on now through January 2nd and tickets can be purchased online for $25 per car. The lights display runs seven days a week so make sure to grab a blanket, snacks, and your quarantine crew for some family fun at the lights show.
Seventh Street, Garden City: Seventh Street in Garden City is a great idea for a night out because there are plenty of things to do all in one spot. The street is lined with restaurants, shops, and stores and is festively decorated for the holiday season. Seventh Street allows you to enjoy a great dinner, dessert, and place to roam around afterwards. The best tried-and-true, COVID-friendly Seventh Street restaurants include Seventh Street Café for Italian food and Leo’s Midway for traditional American food. A perfect spot on 7th for an after-dinner snack is the French Workshop, a French-themed bakery that sells a variety of delicious pastries, cookies, brownies, coffee, and more. In addition, most of the restaurants offer outdoor dining and/or require reservations to ensure that people are not crowded inside.
The Gallery at Westbury Plaza: The Gallery is an ideal spot for anyone who loves shopping but is concerned about the health risks of shopping indoors with a bunch of strangers. The Gallery provides an outdoor alternative to shopping, allowing you to purchase all of your holiday gifts in a safe way. The outdoor mall, located on Old Country Road, includes popular stores like Old Navy, HomeGoods, Saks Off Fifth, Ulta, and even Trader Joe’s. The shopping center even has places to eat like Shake Shack, Spuntino, Tocolo Cantina, and Starbucks. Whether you’re shopping for yourself, for others, or just looking to get out of the house, the Gallery provides a safe environment to exercise a bit of holiday retail normalcy in 2020.
Please stay safe and enjoy your holidays!
