Uber and Careem faced heavy criticism in Egypt at the beginning of 2016 from local taxi drivers for operating without official taxi licenses. Taxi drivers organized several protests and sit-ins demanding that the Egyptian government intervene to halt the activities of the TNCs. A committee was organized by the Egyptian government to assess the complaints of the protesting taxi drivers and standardize taxi services in Egypt. They ruled in favor of the TNCs, ensuring that they can operate legally and provided legal protection for the TNC drivers who had been facing attacks by both state police and angry taxi drivers.[51][52][53][54]

Hey there. I've been shuffling a lot between different cities in UAE, since past few months and I have noticed how careem has started monopolising Dubai taxi services, so much co, that it is nearly impossible to find a cab on its own. Cause cabs and Hala taxi are either hired to get to the passengers or are already full. Not just that but the taxi metres with careem are a joke. I took a cab from Ghubaiba bus station to Hyatt place, which shouldn't cost me a penny more than 18dhs. However the fare came up to 26.50dhs , just because the cab was stuck and traffic and the metre wouldn't slow down.

Taxis in Abu Dhabi are more chilled out, and the metre are super reasonable because I took a ride from corniche to grand mosque for 32dhs. Not to mention, how accessible taxis are without the app. And also drivers charge more if they are hired via careem Which begs the question- how is no one speaking about this robbery in broad daylight. It's almost like money grows on trees, with using Careem app. And there seem to be no competition and taxis are just not available. Please share your thoughts as it's a rant I've been planning to have for weeks now.

I just arrived in Casablanca for our honeymoon and the door man and a taxi driver yelled at my Careem driver saying it was illegal. We ended up paying 10 euros to take us to a restaurant that is about 10 minutes away. Is this normal? I feel uncomfortable having my Careem driver chased away.

Each trip to the mall we would get a private car to take us there but were forced to take a taxi back home (more on that later). We have been taken advantage of by countless taxis, so needless to say, we were always apprehensive about what the experience was going to be like.

In Amman, many taxi drivers do not want to use their meter to take you to your destination. They want to give you a flat rate. If you were catching a ride from a mall, they knew they were just about your only option. We would always insist on using the meters. Many refused so we looked for another taxi that would use the meter. I almost always had my destination route pulled up on my mobile and would offer to let the driver use it to make sure there was no misunderstanding.

Jeeny and Careem are convenient for several reasons, but mostly because the convenience of manually setting a location via your phone GPS is significantly easier than trying to give your driver an address. Careem has cash-settings in Amman, so you don't need to worry about international bank charges: you can order your rides through your phone and pay cash in person as well as through credit cards. Additionally, Careem drivers often serve a unique clientele in contrast to traditional taxi services. Consequently, you are more likely to come across a significant number of English-speaking, young professionals who are well-educated. Many of these drivers work for Careem as a supplementary source of income, and they are often recognized for their amicable and helpful attitude. Don't be surprised if they offer to drive you again. Many of the drivers may offer to give you their number and will try to strike deals with you for longer trips and out-of-town trips.

It's useful to understand the basic layout of Amman. Amman is divided into seven circles, denoting seven hills. These circles are traffic circles. East of the first circle is the 'downtown' area. If your taxi driver is confused about your general location, name the closest circle and he will take you there. There are a few key landmarks in Amman: The King Abdullah I Mosque in the north of the city, Wahdat Bus Station (in the south of the city) (also called "Mujemma al-Janoub", and is where you can grab a service bus to Petra), and Tabarbour Bus Station (far north bus station). Note that the airport you will fly into, Queen Alia, is not in Amman - it is about 30 minutes outside of the city by taxi.

There are, generally, two types of taxis in Amman: The yellow taxis, which will take you wherever you want to go, and white taxis, or service taxis, which should drive a specific route between two points and pick people up along the way. Make sure you ask the taxi to use the meter (say 'il adad'). Generally, it is not a problem for yellow taxis in Amman to use the meter. Do not be radically surprised if your taxi driver appears to be taking a circuitous route around early evening time - traffic is very heavy.

There are three main bus stations in Amman: Wahdat (Mujemma al-Janoub) (GPS coordinate: 3155'02.4"N 3555'48.7"E) station in the south, Abdali (GPS coordinate: N3157'36.37" E3555'1.82") station in the northeast, and Tabarbour (GPS coordinate: N3159'41.28", E 3555'10.92") station in the north. You can find a taxi to go anywhere in Amman at these two locations. Please note that buses do not run on Fridays.

The new company, the name and logo of which will be announcedin the next few months, will cater to the e-hail taxi service to customers asof April 2019. The e-hail taxi market for limousines will remain open for theexisting operators without any change.
