While playing Hill Climb Racing 2, you face a series of races against other online drivers, or at least I think they are, but you can pause the race and they pause too. Am I racing other players' ghosts of their best times? How does the game decide who I should race? How does the ranking system work? Are other players racing against my ghosts?
In order to prevent unfortunate lag, or unfortunate lagging, (as well as allowing you to pause the game), the other players have their attempts of the map downloaded onto the game before being played, like ghosts.

I couldn't find any information to confirm or deny if it's a player's "best" times, however given how frequently I come across other players who actually don't make it to the end, as well as the fact that often (in the higher leagues) it takes longer to find a match, I do believe you are playing against players who are online and playing that cup at that given moment (or have done so very recently).
To answer if you're also in those matches - I presume not, as I've never seen someone time out mid-match, or leave mid-match, so presumably once you've completed a cup your go is uploaded and can be used for the next x minutes to play against other players.
Haven't seen a green light in multiplayer since this update. Sometimes it auto disconnects me from race while at the starting grid waiting for opponents to join. Sometimes I never get past the finding matches screen. Sometime I'm stuck waiting for opponents and nothing happens (waited 10 min).
There are no steps that lead to stopage or bugs, it just happends, starting happening about one month ago. Game starts by waiting conection with another players from 1 to 8, then in game sometimes after the coutdown it just disconects, or just waiting for other players to connect but dont and stay in a state of limbo, you need to exit the game and when in the game again and wait to connect it does not connect and waitting forever. When in game already in race with 1-4 palyers usualy on the second lap one player stops, the rest are qualified or end race but the game cat go forward because of that one player that stoped nd witing forever and you need to exit the game.

2- Make the cars more equialitable: for exemple, make the Honda Touring car have a similar performance than the Golf (or anything OP car of the class) use the BOP to its favor, dont be scaried to nerf or buff car setups to make the grids more variable and give option for players use their personal car preferences more than use a single OP car with a setup made by someone else
For online spec races have proper fixed setup races where tyre and fuel are only choices.
Saves hours of tinkering for a fair race or go get some randoms locked setup to be competitive.
Fixed setups and stability and other driving aids disabled. Traction control and ABS options if the cars have them as standard other wise disabled.
Having racing as a form of new queueable content could be good even in future expansions. If they really wanted to they even could make some mario kart like ground mount race. They already ripped off pokemon with the pet battles anyway.

Multiplayer is the game mode in CSR Racing where you can race real people. It is unlocked when you beat Professor Dee from the Stallion Riders, the Tier 3 crew. Opponents are chosen based on your car rating and current Respect Points. The entry fee to get matched with six opponents depends on the rating of your car.
Every "season" in multiplayer (usually around 2 weeks in length, but can vary), there is a prize car to be won. You must be ranked in the top 3% in order to win the car. If you rank in the top 1% then you will get a Pro version of the car with special livery.
