We plan to have an on-site summer school  (24-26 July 2023) and workshop (27-28 July 2023) at the University of Nottingham, co-organised by the University of Nottingham (UK), Phasecraft (UK) and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Pune (India). This event is financially supported by a Going Global Partnerships Programme of the British Council. 

Mission

The computational power of quantum computing platforms increased at an impressive pace in the last few years, with the milestone of a 1000-qubit device on track to be delivered by the end of 2023. Nevertheless, the proof that noisy, intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices can deliver quantum advantage for concrete applications is still elusive. Simulations of condensed matter models and correlated materials, and optimization of certain complicated problems are considered one of the earliest and most promising applications of such near-term quantum computers.

This event will bring together leading researchers from the UK, Europe, US and India working in cold atom physics, quantum computation, and condensed matter theory. The main goal is to leverage the expertise of both academic and industry partners to pave the way to the exploration of correlated materials and other applications using state-of-the-art and future quantum technology based on superconducting circuits, trapped ions and neutral atom arrays.

The aim of the event is to identify the most promising problems of scientific and industrial relevance which can be tackled with near-term quantum computers, the strategies to address current theoretical and experimental challenges, to accelerate the exchange between academia and industry, and to build a solid collaboration network between UK, European, and Indian partners.

Registration

Summer school  --- 24-26 July 2023 

The workshop will be preceded by a summer school addressed to Master's and PhD students which will provide an introduction to the simulation of condensed matter models on digital and analog quantum devices. 

Applications from underrepresented groups are welcome and will be considered with a higher priority. 

Workshop --- 27-28 July 2023  

We are inviting contributions to this workshop in the form of posters. Junior and early-career researchers are especially encouraged to apply. 

Fee

The registration fee for the summer school is £150, and the workshop is £100. A 20% discount will be applied if you register for both the summer school and workshop (i.e. £200 for both the summer school and workshop). Lunch, refreshments and materials during the School and the workshop will be provided to all participants. 

Contributing participants are expected to self-fund their travel and accommodation expenses. 

Limit funding (maximal £150 per applicant) is available to cover the registration. Please indicate if you would like to apply the funding in the registration. 

Registration

The registration is open until 30th April 2023. We will let you know whether your registration has been successful by 10th May 2023. Please be aware that, due to logistical constraints, we can only admit up to 20 contributing participants for both the summer school and workshop. In case we receive more registrations than we can accommodate, we will select the most suitable ones based on criteria of relevance, excellence, and diversity.
