Apple recently released iPadOS 18.6.2. This update is now approved to run on your CAPI device. A good cellular connection is required to install this iPadOS update or an adequate Wi-Fi connection. Please fully read these steps before you begin! Run this this ASAP.
Login to your iPad. On the Home Screen:
Make sure you are logged out of CAPI.
Go to Settings/General/Software Update
Click Download and Install. If you have not upgraded to iPadOS 18 yet, click where it says "Upgrade to iPadOS 18".
If a message appears asking if you want to use cellular, click Continue; this option may take more time to complete your install.
WAIT for the update to begin to install. This update will take some time to complete. Please be patient! Do not login to CAPI while the update is processing.
Your iPad will begin the iPadOS download. A progress bar will show.
Click Install when prompted. Your iPad will eventually restart to the Apple logo with a progress bar. Wait for this process to completely finish. You may need to enter your passcode again after this step. If you see a prompt to change your passcode, you must change it. If you don't see the prompt, then you are good to go on your passcode.
Your iPad will return to your Home screen. You may or may not need to cycle through some "new features" screens. You can read through those or page through and return to the Home screen. If you don't see these, you are good to go.
Please Log back into CAPI after the iPadOS has completed to test CAPI login.
Starting with iPadOS 18, a new feature was added with this update that needs to be disabled. It is called the “Rapid Security Response.” To disable this feature, go to “Setting/General/Software Update/Automatic Updates. Once there tap the slider next to “System Responses & System Files” to turn it from green to gray. That will disable the features. Also, double check that “Download iPadOS Updates” is also disabled by taping the slider from green(on) to gray(off)
Lastly, some users with newer devices (iPad Air 5) may see a popup window about Apple Intelligence after updating to iPadOS 18.6.2. If they do, Select the option that says, “Set Up Now,” to continue on to the home page. We have not received any notification about Apple Intelligence and whether it should be disabled or not. Until then, leave the feature activated and your RFO will notify you of any changes.

CAPI URL Migration
The Mobile Survey Services Section is moving forward with sunsetting the CAPI Production and CAPI Training apps physically installed on each CAPI iPad and using only the CAPI Production and CAPI Training URL links for data collection. This move is due to the consistent stability of the CAPI Production and CAPI Training URL links compared to their physical app counterparts. All CAPI iPad users will need to access the URL links through the CAPI Dashboard Icon located on each iPad. The links to both sites can be found below:
CAPI Dashboard - https://sites.google.com/view/capidashboard/
CAPI Productions - https://www.agcounts.usda.gov/static/capi/index.html
CAPI Training - https://capitraining.nass.usda.gov/static/capi/index.html
All CAPI iPad users will need to be using the URL links no later than Thursday, July 3, 2025. After that deadline, there will be a push to remove the physical CAPI Production and CAPI Training Apps from the iPads. The CAPI Dashboard App will remain on the iPads for ease of access to the URL links.

ALERT! The CAPI Team has updated the CAPI URL sites with a few minor updates, and a new version. The CAPI Mobile Applications (the CAPI icons on your iPad) will be updated at a later date, but they can still be used as before. The following updates were done only to the CAPI URLs:
Column/grid alignments adjusted.
Mapping of alternate physical addresses is now possible using Best Route. When only PO Box exists for the primary address, CAPI looks for a physical address to map (only if one exists in the system). Note: Best Route only works well if using the CAPI iPad.
Other behind the scenes maintenance items needed for CAPI team.
The new version for the CAPI and CAPI Pooler URL applications will be v2025.02.06. These URLs can be accessed above using the links.
All enumerators must do these tasks before logging in to the CAPI URLs:
Clear website data (cache) on Safari (iPad), OR clear History if using Chrome to access CAPI URL on a desktop.
Do "Clear Preferences" on the CAPI Login before logging in.
If you don't see the new version please call your RFO for assistance.
The version for the iPad mobile application icons is currently v24.10.23.

Urgent! New CAPI Mobile Application icons will be pushed to your iPad on Friday, November 22, 2024, beginning at 9:00 am EST. You may remain logged in the CAPI URL Production if needed during this push.
After the new CAPI icons complete their install you must log out of the CAPI URL site before logging in using the CAPI icons. The new CAPI Applications contain these updates:
A required Departmental security fix. This fix will not be seen. It is all behind the scenes.
A change to "Previous" button color to enhance navigation inside the questionniares.
Enumerators should follow these instructions:
Please fully charge your device before the push time and date stated above! It is best to leave your iPad on the charger when an application push is expected. This will ensure best results for the push to be received and downloaded successfully.
You will need a good cellular signal or you must be connected a WIFI.
After the push, enumerators may use CAPI via the icons on their iPad home screen.
If you are still logged into to CAPI Production on the URL site on Safari, you must logout and close all open Safari tabs, swipe Safari closed, then clear Safari website history under “Settings/Safari”.
Please tap “Clear Preferences” on the CAPI login screen before login.
ALERT! The mobile application auto-push can take considerable time to fully download, depending on your connection speed. Please use the CAPI Production URL if your CAPI version is still showing the old one. Check the version to match the one below. Contact your RFO if you have concerns.
The new version number for CAPI mobile applications is v24.10.23 Look in the top right corner after logging into CAPI to find the version number. If you do not have this version please contact your RFO!

Apple recently released iPadOS 18.1.
Lastly, with iPadOS 18.1, a new feature was added with this update that needs to be disabled.
