This session will review recent advances in competence based capacity development for protected areas. It will introduce the IUCN WCPA Global Register of Competences for Protected Area Practitioners, The IUCN SSC Global Register of Competences for Threatened Species Practitioners, and the SMART Competences: a register of competences for users of SMART Version 1, 2021. The new capacity assessment app for the protected area competences will be demonstrated and instructional videos will be shown on the use of the competence registers.
