For whatever reason after a few days of not using EOS utility the software will not recognize my camera even if windows 10 does, I have turned off WiFi/NFC and connected it via usb but EOS utility does nothing with it. When I use EOS Utility 3 it just says "Connect an EOS camera." despite it already being connected. When I have used EOS utility 2 the software says "Camera is not recognized" when I launch the software and then connect the camera it immediately closes and gives that message as well.

I'm running the most recent version of Windows 10. The only way I can get the utility to start at all is to do it manually, at which point I get the screen with the "Connect an EOS camera." message. At this point both cameras, 6D Mark II and M50, show the connection icon on the menu screen.

Except for some transisition problems from V2 to V3 for my older 40D, I've been running the utility software for 10 years without any problems. Although becaise of all the devices I have it's been a long time since the utility woud autolaunch, but I've always been able to get it to work manually.

I have the new EOS R6 mark II. I also installed the EOS utility from Canon's website ( w3.15.20.4, dated 4 jul 2022).

When I connect the camera via USB the utility starts but finally responds with "camera is not recognized". I tried several USB/USB-c cables.

For comparison I checked whether the utility (v3) is working for my 5D mark III, and it does.

I also tried the utility via wifi connect. Initially it starts and there seems to be a connection, but then it says again "camera is not recognized".

While connected via USB my computer explorer seems the camera as a drive and I can see the contents of the SD-card. But my computer does not recognize the camera via the EOS utility.

Could it be that I need a newer version of the utility, assuming this very new Canon model might not be included yet in the definitions of the utility?

After details: I have a DELL XPS13, Windows 11,

Thanks, that did the trick!

Since the Canon website didn't list version 3.16 yet for my camera, I started the utility manually without a camera connected. Doing so, the utility stayed open and I could click the 'check for updates' button, which downloaded version 3.16.

I was downloading my pics on my R5, I usually shoot 200+ raw images, when I noticed not all my images had been downloaded to Mac. This happened several times and since I usually delete the images after download I was losing some of my favorite images. I finally gave up on the EOS 3 utility and have just started using Image Capture. Anyone else experience this? I have been using the CF Express card on my R5 which I have reformatted to be sure, but problem persisted

Thank you for the reply, my OS is Ventura 13.1, and EOS utility 3.16.1.3, which i know has some issues, i suspected the card so did a reformat, tried different cable, same problem. the files were not corrupt sonce i was able to download them with Image Capture. With as many images as i shoot its difficult to verify if they all download, so it could have been happening for a while. I did wonder if the different cards in my R5 could be the issue since i have both CF express and SD cards in camera.

Hi Tim! Thanks so much for your helpful response. I will update to the latest EOS Utility version as you suggested. I typically launch the utility from the Dock on my MBP, but come to think of it, if memory serves me right, it may automatically launch once the computer detects the camera. As I get older, I feel like such a simpleton when it comes to technology. And yes, I feel like I am drowning in cables sometimes. But I keep this one with my camera and lenses because it's so important. I guess I should look into a card reader, if that's what the preferred mode is these days. I do sometimes wish I lived in earlier times where film was the only option.

EOS Webcam Utility doesn't work with apps like Google Chrome with M1 Macs, but it should be able to easily with some help from Canon.

I recently switched to an M1 powered Macbook Pro from an Intel one and noticed that after installing the utility, it didn't show up as an available camera. Doing some internet searching including on this forum I found the following advice:

1. Use OBS Studio as a virtual camera.

2. Use the x86 version of Google Chrome in Rosetta

Neither of these are a great option though as running OBS is purely band-aid and the x86 version of Chrome in Rosetta has a massive performance hit for me on my machine.

So I decided to do some debugging as to why it wasn't working. (Why does it work in OBS and perhaps some other places but not in Chrome) and it's actually really simple:

I agree they have dropped the ball. I purchased an M1 in 2021 and my canon cuts off when i used the virtual camera method. I don't feel like i should have to buy another camera but at this point I'm looking elsewhere or use my phone for live streaming.

I took some self-portraits today using the EOS Utility as a live viewer and a the canon remote shutter button. All seem to be working fine, I could hear the shutter working and the flash was activating so I'm sure it was taking the photos.

However when I went to view the images afterwards none of them seem to be on my memory card.

Some photos I took earlier this morning using the remote shutter button but not with EOS Utility are on the card, so I think the issue must be connected to EOS Utility.

Really hope I can retrieve my images somehow. Please help!

Thanks

Where is the EOS Utility saving photos? There is a setting in the utility that sets that. Reconnect and power up the camera again, and start up the EOS utility as if you were going to take pictures again.

Once everything is ready to go, go to the Main Screen of the EOS Utility and look for a Preferences button. This is where you set the folder for downloaded pictures to be saved. I am guessing that setting will tell you where the images might be saved.

I have a 700D and want to use EOS Utility remote shooting to make videos. I want to avoid using Auto Focus as it is SO loud as it constantly focuses. I can't seem to find a way to manually focus through the utility using MF. Only option so far has been to focus the camera first on the actual camera, and then begin shooting. But as I am filming myself on camera it would be ideal to be able to focus manually through the utility itself.

After reading that thread I decided to unplug the other USB devices I had in the computer at the time (Garmin Watch, USB key, smart phone) and turn off the camera. I then turned on the camera and ran the EOS utility and it found my camera and worked correctly.

but if you edit the shortcut in the startup folder to start "eos utility 2" (leave the rest of the shortcut in place) it will bring up the utility apparently in a different mode (or another version of it :)) that will recognize the camera as soon as you conect it (and switch it on :))

I'm having the same problem. Just upgraded to Windows 10. Can't connect my 70D via USB or Wireless. EOS utility only shows 2 buttons. One says Pairing over WiFi/Lan the other is Cancel.

Camera screen looks ok. Says to start software on PC. EOS utility is running.

Can someone let me know if you can disable this from auto launching. I would like to use capture one and have the eos utliity on my computer as a backup plan. With the eos utility auto launching it will not allow capture to mount the camera. I tested it on my tower where I don't have the utility and capture works perfectly. So I am thinking it's the auto launch feature or it could just be that eos is installed and that takes priority.

can you send me a screen shot of this disable button? I don't see it anywhere. I've clicked on every inch of the start screen. I'm getting a mark III today. so I'll be using the utility 3 now. but I still don't see the icon your speaking about.

I found out what was causing the problem on my computer. It was AVG Antivirus. EOS Utility stopped working on another computer and no I thought that was very peculiar. I started looking harder at my configurations and starting turning things off. Sure enough it was AVG antivirus. As soon as I disabled it the EOS utility started working. They must have had a recent update that cause the problems because it was working before. No errors in AVG so I am going to have some choice words with them. It is unacceptable to disable a program and not display any notification that you are doing it. I have spent a considerable amount of time troubleshooting this.

I've rung Canon support as was having the same problem with EOS Utility. They advised I remove all canon software from my PC, then disable AVG while I re-installed the Canon software. I can confirm this has worked!

Actually when I install EOS utility I cannot uncheck EOSU2. I litteraly don't have boxes to check or uncheck So I have to install EOSU2, EOSU3, EOS lens registration tool and EOS Web Service Registration tool. 2351a5e196
