In this article we will show you how to find the driver/software needed for your operating system.

Whether you have a new printer or computer, an updated operating system, or for some reason your printer and computer are no longer able to communicate, updating or reinstalling your drivers may be helpful.

To utilize all functions of your printer/scanner, the Canon software for your model may be necessary. Instructions on how to find these are below.

If you are installing your printer for the first time, have updated your computer operating system, or the printer is unable to communicate with the computer, you will need to download the recommended driver in order to print.

Choose the Download button to the right of the software or driver file you wish to download. In most cases, you will see a driver that is recommended for you. Downloading and installing the MP Drivers or Full Driver and Software Package will help you set your printer up to print and scan.

1. Was able to get it to upload the patch. Then, the driver up did upload. I was able to print one photo and scan one doc. Didn't use the printer for several days, then it would not work at all--not to print or scan. The printer hardware is still in excellent condition, but the message reads that the PC does not recognize that the printer is plugged in, or attached by USB port.

3. To answer basic questions : A. Yes, I am clicking the drop-down box on Windows 11. But that does not change the driver choice. B. Yes, I have uploaded both patches underneath the only driver choice. C. Yes, I have installed dirvers before and operated computers for 40 years. D. Yes, I had unplugged the USB port and turned off the computer when installing, then plugged in and turned on when the appropriate instructional box said to. E. Yes, I have chut down and restarted the PC in between trying again to upload the driver.

After the installation completed, it appeared as Canon MX920 series Printer WS and I was able to successfully print a Windows Printer Test Page. I tried opening a print dialog in Chrome, and then clicked "print using system dialog..." and that also worked, bringing up the familiar Canon printer control software that I had on my old PC. That may have come from attempting to install the above referenced driver, even though it failed to find the printer.

On computer, in Windows Settings. I followed the steps to add a printer or scanner. I have the printer attached via USB. Windows found it, identified it, and installed the necessary drivers with no further input from me. I did not have to point to the downloaded Canon files, so I do not think those were used.

Can I ask when you actually did the Windows 11 upgrade? I ask because I'm contemplating doing the Windows upgrade very soon, but I know drivers, especially printer drivers, can be messy to deal with after these kind of upgrades. I have an MX340 and I don't see any Win 11 drivers available. I'm hoping not to lose access to print after the upgrade. Thanks.

Lobster 70, this time I used the green dialogue box to open and install the driver, but never got a box like the one you show above. Where did you find that box? On the Canon driver site? Or on your computer?

I am "getting up to speed" on a Canon Pixma Pro-200 Printer. I see articles that suggest that the correct printer driver may not actually be running when installing to a MAC running os 13.4 (Ventura). Maybe AirPrint is installed instead.

I suspect this as:

1. The Canon Pro-200 dialog from the MAC preferences tab only offers General and Supply Levels in the dialog and I see no UTILITY option.

2. Under KIND, I read Canon PRO-200 series - AirPrint

Without the Utility tab, there are printer set up options and changes that I am unable to make.

I found a Canon document that references this issue but when I follow the instruction for installing the proper driver , I am unsuccessful and see the same info as I reported earlier.

2. In System Settings->Printers & Scanners select the option to add a printer and wait for the Canon printer driver to appear. It could take several minutes. Generally the first driver to appear is the Apple AirPrint Driver.

Thank you very much. This helped me. A must is to use the proper driver and not select to soon which will be the AirPrint driver which will be incorrect.

Red River Paper provided this link which provides a detailed guide!

I tried 4 times to get my new printer to install. It kept going from "printer detected" to "printer not detected, check connection". I tried every suggestion in the guide, as well as trying multiple USB ports and 2 different USB cables.

I cant seem to get mines install, im not sure what driver im supposed to install ? please help! Ive searched everywhere and cant seem to find how to install it to my laptop . Edit: My scanner works, but not my printer. Im not sure if it is my laptop, it is Windows 10 Home in S mode.

This prior post is what worked for me. Give it a try, and be sure to wipe out any traces of the prior installation. You should have an installation disk that came with the printer - that's where you'll find the program for installing. If not, go to the Canon website and install from there.

I know this is extremely late, but I have an answer for how to fix this for anyone who is looking for an answer in 2021. Like me, you probably plugged the printer in to the computer and turned it on before trying to install the drivers, I know I did! And... that was the problem. So here's how to fix it:

I kind of work in the hardware device industry and might have a hint what is wrong. Their driver is seriously messed up. It doesn't automatically scan the USB root port for the devices. Depending on user to boot up the printer and that to do a system hardware scan.

5. If that doesn't work, try to find the actual printer(this can be tricky, since driver not installed yet the printer is still shown as a USB device, not a printer. I would go to view, device by connection, then try to find a USB device and start browsing up and down the USB try to see if you can find anything said canon or printer, mine look like this)

If the only issue is that the scanner is not being detected through the setup, it will usually mean that something is blocking the driver install or the scanner connection. The connection should be fine if you are able to scan via airprint. In this situation, I would suggest contacting support at 1-800-652-2666. They can check what is blocking the install or what is causing the communication issue.

I too have the same issue (can't find device using both default and by Search by IP) My printer is MF644CDw and using windows 10 pro 21H1. using latest driver on website: MF642CMFDriverV6403WP.exe . Also tried Admin user and verified Printer webpage is up and can see and verify all settings. Installing microsoft ipp driver works but don't have all the settings such as duplex. But I want MF Scan Utility back. Please assist.

Bur recently I've installed Easy PhotoPrint EX because it made it easy to make 4x6 prints using the printer's separate 4x6 paper tray. The app opens OK but when attempting to select photos to print the following pops up.

Of course it supported the i960 printer just fine in WinXP and Win7. Snooping around in the Canon Knowledge Base, I found the following info. The i960 is listed as one of the models not supported with Win10.

Information on Windows 10 and Older Printer / Scanner Models

Solution

If you are considering upgrading your operating system, please be aware that the products below are not supported with Windows 10. Although Canon will not issue drivers for these products to support the Windows 10 operating system, the Windows 7 or Windows 8 drivers should function in the new Windows 10 environment with some limitations which are currently unknown to Canon. If you chose not to upgrade to Windows 10, the Canon products listed below will continue to work with your current operating system.

In spite of the info above, I was unable to find any Canon drivers for Win7 or 8 to try installing. There's also no newer version of the Easy PhotoPrint software than what I already have installed. I'm thinking the printer initially installed with Win10's generic drivers.

To use the i960 with Canon programs, once the Windows driver was installed, the next step was to download and install the "Printer Driver Add-On Module". This provide full functionality of the printer. 2351a5e196
