Marijuana at Work? *GASP*

There has long been a stigma in the United States that tells us marijuana and work do not mix. In fact, as the stereotypes would say, people who smoke weed are probably jobless, poor, and ultimately too lazy to do anything productive for society. The reality is that things are changing. More and more people are beginning to use marijauna for the right reasons, especially for people who are using it for medical conditions. Even 5 years ago, the thought of being high at work was unimaginable (unless you worked at the taco bell down the street). However, Covid-19 has changed a lot of things in this country. Of course, when the pandemic hit us really hard, many of us in the United States had to follow the stay at home orders. This meant that, for those of us that were lucky enough to keep our jobs, we had to work from our home offices. Did you know that the sales of cannabis in the United States skyrocketed in 2020? Do you know why? Well, it’s not too hard to figure out.

One of the main reasons is because people were spending so much time at home and needed a way to escape from the everyday monotony. Cannabis is a great way to get high and enjoy something new and euphoric. People also experience more mental health problems than ever before. Working from home added all new types of depression and stress that we were just not ready for. One report says that as many as 15% to 20% of young professionals in the workforce began to self medicate with cannabis during work hours due to the stay at home orders. Will this shape how cannabis is used in the future? Read more to find out!

One of the reasons that you should never use cannabis when working is if you have to drive or operate equipment. Can you imagine the amount of construction workers that would die if the crane operator was as high as a kite? It just would not be good. Plus, while commuting to the office sucks, it’s not a good idea to light up in the car either. Even if you think you are good to drive, you just shouldn’t if you have used any marijuana at all. However, there is something to be said for the people that are staying at home all day long. If they are able to remain productive, is it really all bad that they are using marijuana? Honestly, it is all up for debate and I don’t think there is just one right answer by any means. One of the main proponents for allowing marijuana usage while working from home comes down to stress levels.

One might assume that it would be easier to work from the comfort of one's home every day and avoid the stress of the office. However, we have seen from various studies that most Americans felt their stress levels get worse as they began to work remotely. Whether it be because of home conditions or just the type of work, staying productive and fulfilled while working from an apartment can feel impossible. What if employees could use marijuana products that ultimately boost their mood and energy levels, all the while allowing them to feel more creative and productive? Would that really be so bad? I don’t think so. Plus, feelings of anxiety can overwhelm young professionals and cause them to completely shut down. I think that using certain strains of cannabis, especially sativa strains and sativa dominant hybrids, would be really good for the people of America.
