Welcome to my page! I am an Assistant Professor of AI for Structures & Materials at TU Delft. I co-direct AiDAPT Lab, TU Delft's AI Lab for Design, Analysis, and Optimization in the Built Environment. My group's research focuses on decision-making under uncertainty for engineering systems of the built world. We develop prediction, inference, and optimization methods to support resilient and sustainable design and intervention planning. Our research spans structural mechanics, building engineering, uncertainty quantification, risk and reliability, optimization, and stochastic optimal control, particularly as these fields intersect at the confluence of engineering and machine learning. Our applications of interest lie in the broader areas of structural intervention planning; risk assessment against stressors & hazards; generative design and optimization; value of structural health information quantification; and probabilistic modeling of engineering systems. Shaping machine learning, we bridge physics-based engineering with data-driven intelligence, towards new paradigms that can meet the complex decision-making challenges of a dynamically changing, growing, and intertwined built world at scale.
