My name is Hana Rogstad and I am a student at the University of Lethbridge. While studying Music and Education, I decided to build on my Japanese language skills. With my mother being Japanese, I felt that I needed to be able to connect to this side of my heritage so this lead to enrolling in language courses at the university. I am so grateful for the chance to consistently speak Japanese and engage in conversations, especially with family members. This was an opportunity to share my language and culture with others and I am glad that I took it. Thank you!

My name is Alex Jiang. I am a grade 11 student at Richmond Secondary School. My interest in Japan came from the wacky cartoons that grew up with me. Shows such as Detective Conan, Doraemon, and many other fantastic works of literature that enriched my childhood really sparked my curiosity in the culture. I started taking Japanese from grade 9 and thanks to my wonderful teacher Ms.Yasui I have learned a great deal about Japan (though I still have MUCH to learn). The video submitted was made by a group of friends who really worked together to make it happen. Thanks again for giving us this opportunity to express our love in this event, it really means a lot to us!

Alberta Education Award

Through the process of the video production we have come to learn to view Richmond with the scope of Japanese perspective. From the theme song “Wanna Go Home”, to our carefully selected landmarks in Richmond, we want to convey a nostalgic sentiment for our Canadian viewers as well as to introduce our beautiful city to foreigners. We reveal the daily lives and our favorite places in Richmond from the memories of a young high school student, who has grown up and worked in another city. The video begins with the flashbacks of her childhood, and takes on a journey of her life in the community. by: Christina Lin, Jean Chen, Tiffanie Sun, Stefanie Peng
