SFU Prize

My name is Stephanie Taniguchi and I recently graduated from SFU. Though I was born in Japan I came to Canada when I was a baby and rarely spoke the language growing up. That’s why, when I began university, I was eager to study Japanese and finally try and speak in my father’s native language. In 2015 I spent a year in Ishikawa, Japan, working in a co-op position where I could exercise both my artistic and Japanese language abilities. I spent much of my free time exploring the country and documenting the amazing culture and beauty of Japan. I hope you enjoy my video, which is made up of a selection of footage during this unforgettable adventure!

Why I love Japan, Stephanie Taniguchi, Simon Fraser University (Alumni)

Hello, we are Wendy, Jocelyn, and Amy, and this year will be our last year at Richmond Secondary School. Our Japanese journey began in early 2014, and from then on we had the opportunity to grow with this unique language, through frustrations with katakana to the colorful fairs and flea markets we hosted every fall. Although each of us is preparing to embark on different paths in life, we thought it to be fitting to create a video expressing the mutual passion that led us here: our love for Japanese culture.
