I've rented several movies with tv app on my macbook. The purchase is completed, i'm charged but nothing happens. When i check for available downloads I'm also told "no downloads available." I find the item again in the store and it's obvious i've rented as it says i can "play" or "download." I hit "download" and it says "downloading" and a white circle spins but then it goes back to the cloud with an arrow and the option to "download" again. I can download on my iphone but cannot get this to work on my macbook.

I was just wondering if I can get some clarification on some information.

I dont have an apple tv box

I use apple tv through the app that is on my LG tv / PS5 and Xbox Series X

I have generally being using it to watch the shows that are on the tv+

But I wanted to do a rewatch of the Dark Knight trilogy.

Seems like I can rent the movies from the store.

Is this recommended for the best quality in my head it seems like it should give me the best quality.

Someone mentioned to me that the Apple tv App doesnt actually show 4K when renting a movie and that the apple tv box 4k will show the film in 4K. |

I couldnt believe that and also couldnt find any information on it.

Since December (2022) I cannot play any movies that I RENT from iTunes. I rented five movies to watch over the holidays and none of them would play. I just get a blank screen with the controls at the bottom, and when I press the Play button, nothing happens. I have rented dozens of movies in previous years and never had this problem before. Also, very interestingly, if I BUY the movie from iTunes, it plays just fine. So the problem is only with the playback of rentals.

As I explained in my original post, I am trying to play rented movies using the iTunes app on my PC laptop. I always use the same device (my laptop) and don't have any other devices. Rented movies played just fine on this device until about a month ago.

I rented a movie but that does not come under my purchases on my iphone. I am using same apple id or icloud id for all my devices. It was earlier not visible on apple TV even where i purchased this. I then chat with apple guys who recommended me to log out from apple tv and then log in. Fortunately it worked and i was so happy. But i want to see that movie on my weekend, so I shut down tv and after 2 hours again just ON TV, but to my surprise, when i clicked movie, that rented movie again disappeared. I may login again and may be it will show up again. but what is going on here ? Second why this movie is not getting displayed on my iphone and mac mini ?

Thank you very much and I am fully convinced. You are great and I am surprised that when I contacted apple support in india, they were not sure what is the reason. But your response make sense for me. Excellent.

May I ask you for how to transfer ( if i shop on my iphone to my apple tv ?) I have iphone 6 with latest software. I saw using air drop or blue tooth but both are not connecting. Like I tried to connect my mac mini (mid 2011) with iphone but after pairing it says, device s not compatible. I am using same network and very close and in line with machines.

I rented a movie from iTunes. I got it to start playing on my Mountain Lion MBPro. When I tried to Airplay it to my AppleTV to view on a larger screen, the audio came through but not the video which turned into gray and white checkerboard boxes on both the mac and the appletv. Turned off airplay and the movie started to play normally again. Anyone have a solution to this or is Apple specifically blocking someone from streaming some content to the AppleTV? The movie was still downloading, but would play on my Mac and should have been able to stream.

I do not know it as a fact, but I belive you are running into one of the DRM restructions. They are much stricter with rented content. And a bunch of apps block content on AirPlay. They genreally will not allow DRMed content to be streamed or played on a computers video out ports. Microsoft Media player does the same thing. You should be able to see it on AppleTV directly as long as you are using the same AppleID on both the Mac and ATV.

Same problem on my new MBP w retina display. Happens with both rented and puchased material. It doesn't happen with an old MBP. I've tried wating until download was complete, but still same problem. Sorry, no answer yet.

It will only play if I rented or purchased directly from the Apple TV. It appears many people have asked about this and it seems to be a DRM issue. You can try talking to Apple but from what I can tell, there's nothing you can do about it. Would be happy to find another solution.

I had the same problem but finally figured it out. You have to turn on "Mirroring". Go to the main screen on your iPhone and swipe up to open the control center. Press the AirPlay icon, then press the tv icon that you're wanting to play the movie on, and swipe the mirroring icon to ON. Keep in mind, everything you do on your iPhone with "mirroring" turned on, will show on your tv screen. But it will play your rented shows/movies, and it adjusts the screen size automatically.

In order to watch a rented movie while offline, simply start watching it while online so the time the movie was first watched can be recorded. Then stop watching it, and you can watch the movie offline until the "time the movie was first watched" clock expires.

I know it takes a while to update documentation. This change only occurred after June 20, 2019, as I rented, downloaded and watched 3 movies that day on my flights home. No wifi required once the downloads were complete.

I rented a movie on my iPad tonight and went to play it on the tv but with ios 11 i can't chromecast movies anymore and I don't have apple tv. so I was just going to use my laptop and the hdmi cord but its not anywhere in the iTunes app on my computer and when i search the movie again it just gives me the option to buy or rent it again. I don't want to pay again to watch it if I never got to watch it in the first place, does anyone know how to find a rented movie on my laptop? thanks ?

im going on a brutally long flight (with HORRID inflight entertainment) and rented a movie from iTunes and hoped to rent more. I want to watch this on the plane (no wifi connection). When I called the iTunes rep said this was possible, however it's not showing up under videos on my iPad. Help!

The residential rental registration program is implemented through the Apple Valley Police Department. Please contact Crime Prevention Specialist, Pam Walter, with questions, concerns, or to advise the City of rental properties in your neighborhood. Pam may be contacted by phone at 952.953.2706; or by email at pam.walter@applevalleymn.gov.

Strange issue. I rented a movie but before I watched it, my apple tv crashed and restarted. Now, the rented movie does not appear and when I go back to the movie, it says "you have already rented this item but it has not been downloaded. To download it, go to the Settings menu, select Downloads, and Check for Downloads."

All I did was click menu to back out of rental and got the same message as above when trying to go back to watching sending me on a wild goose chase for menus that don't exist. This is a pretty serious bug if it requires a complete reset. Please correct ASAP. Should have just rented through my cable provider....

So in short: there is something weird going on when downloading movies from Apple TV that needs looking into. To try and recreate the problem, I rented another video. I then downloaded it on the iMac, and tried to download it on the Macbook. It wouldn't - it gave me the message: 'to download Nomadland (the movie) you first need to remove it from your other device'. Which is annoying, but understandable. However - even though I had just gotten Monsterland to play on the macbook, now that I had tried to download Nomadland, Monster Hunter suddenly doesn't want to play either anymore on the macbook. Weirdly, when I try and start Monster Hunter, it gives me the same error message about Nomadland. It's like some signals are getting crossed...

My guess is that Apple TV wants to prevent showing a rented movie on 2 devices, and therefore blocks downloads. An annoying policy, but more annoying is that there is some kind of bug in the code that does not execute that block properly, it interferes with other rentals as well. And my guess is that because I had somehow managed to download Monster Hunter on 2 devices anyway, that caused a second set op problems. 2351a5e196
