If your goal is to be completely rid of update notifications from apps you can't update, your best bet is to factory reset your Kindle. A complete factory reset will get rid of Google Play and will eliminate the update notifications. Then you can re-install the apps you've purchased via the Kindle's native app store.

I have the new Fire 7 Kids version. I was able to install the google play store and downloaded the "Youtube Kids" that my child loves, but I can't seem to add it to the child profile. The only apps it allows me to select are those downloaded from Amazon's own app store. Is there anyway around this?

Installing app on freetime profile. First from child freetime profile settings menu under security enable third party apps. For youtube kids I needed to install google play services onto the child profile (file 2 and 3 from this site.) then I install the youtube kids apk. (If you install google play store on the main profile you can get youtube kids or any other apk by downloading the app from play store then using an app like "MyAppSharer" that extracts the apk.)

I have made a pretty good search for appropriate Kindle versions of well regarded Android media apps and finally settled on installing and using two different apps. One is called Avia, and the other is Bubble/UPnP and are free at the Kindle app store. I use both apps interchangeably for accessing and playing media files on my Kindle Fire HD tablets (mostly music and videos) from my WD NAS and other devices on my home network. Avia is a little simpler for first time users, and later graduate to Bubble. It is feature packed, which can make for more complexity and usefullness. Try them both,

@mike27oct,

While WD is partially at fault, the ultimate blame lies with Amazon for locking down the Fire tablets so pretty much only apps from the Amazon store are allowed to be installed on the Fire, and not the run of the mill Android apps from the Google Play store that can be installed on a whole host of other Android tablets and smartphones.

As far as I can tell, it seems that when the Event.ACTIVATE fires, the app runs and Amazon just tosses a screen-lock overlay on top. My app is running at full frame rate (and playing audio) underneath the screen lock, but there are no events I can listen for to tell when the unlock happens.

Once you have the setting enabled that allows you to install non-play store apps, you can think of installing .apk files as no different from how you installed Joplin on Windows - think of it like Android's version of an installer .exe file.

If you download Google play store on your fire tablet, you should be able to install any app from the play store on your tablet. There are many tutorials on YouTube, just select the one that works for your Fire Tablet 10 and follow the instructions. I have done this 6+ times with no issues when following instructions correctly.

Google play does not support soundcore for fire tablets.

I call bull $hit. Are you just saying it will work or did you actually try?

I checked both Google and Amazon app store neither offer soundcore for my Amazon fire HD 10. So keep to what you know bud.

There are also several other recent changes that should allow Fire Toolbox to work better and more efficiently, and developer Datastream33 has revamped the Advanced App management tool, which lets you extract apps from your tablet, view app info, view or manage app permissions, or force stop (terminate) a running app.

Hello. I recently installed Google Play on an Amazon Fire 10 Generation 9 tablet with OS 7.3.2.7. There is a child profile established on the tablet, as well as an adult profile and parental control. I would like to know if there is a way that Google Play or any of the apps/games downloaded from Google Play can be shared with the child profile on this Amazon tablet. Thank you. John

Regarding your question, by default, apps installed from Google Play are only accessible from the profile where they were installed. This means that apps installed in the adult profile will not be automatically available in the child profile.

Regardless of which store users are browsing and downloading apps from, developers still need to focus on making sure users can find their app. While the Amazon App Store and Google Play Store are similar, apps need to pay attention to App Store Optimization (ASO) best practices.

The Amazon App Store is not limited to just Fire devices. While it takes a bit of work, the App Store can be installed on most Android devices and provide users with an alternative to the Google Play Store. However, the process requires you to enable the ability to install apps from unknown sources, which is highly discouraged by Google.

I'm trying to install Canvas on my kindle so that I can read my homework on there and use an electronic note-taker (scanning pen device). Anyone have insight about that? Or an alternate way to take dissertation notes from electronic sources?

Hello, I have replied recently to this post, and since I just got my Kindle Fire 10, I found a workaround that allows me to download Canvas for Students to my Kindle Fire 10 Plus. I have Canvas on my Fire now and it works really well. If you don't mind going outside the box, How-To Geek has the perfect bypass for downloading the Google Play Store to your Kindle. It is claimed that it is possible to download and install the Google Play Store onto a Fire device. This involves installing four new Google files from a source which is not Google. It is also quite intricate. For this reason we do not recommend it. But you can read about the process here and at greater length here. Once you have the Play Store installed, you can use it to install all the apps you have bought from Google Play.
