MATEO SÁNCHEZ
Versatile drummer and percussionist
Mateo has performed from classical, to rock, folk, funk, jazz, and Latin with many bands and orchestras as National Orchestra Symphonic of Bolivia, Efecto Mandarina (Fusion), Guapacha (Salsa), Mousthace Boys (Swing), Bolivian Folk Music with Khana in Buenos Aires Argenitina, Franky Groove (Second Line and brass band), Tally Mix (Salsa), and Avis Baker Quintet (Jazz).
Sánchez has studied modern music at the National Conservatory of Music in Bolivia, in Berklee College of Music, and currently studies at Florida State University. In Argentina, he has taken private drum lessons with Fernando Martinez (Joe Lovano, Scott Henderson, Dori Caymmi, Eddie Gomez), Pepi Taveira (Delfeayo Marsalis, Danilo Pérez, Sam Newsome, Igor Butman), Horacio el Negro Hernandez (Michael Camilo, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Jeff Berlin), and Robby Ameen (Ruben Blades, Dizzy Gillespie, Paul Simon). In the USA, he has studied under Skip Hadden (Weather Report, Sonny Stitt, Bill DeArango, John Abercrombie), and Leon Anderson (Wynton Marsallis). He has done jazz harmony with Mitch Haupers (USA) and while in La Paz, he has also done studies of symphonic percussion with Willy Pozadas, piano and jazz harmony with Einar Guillen, and Cuban percussion with Jose Alberto Abreu.
