Are you too old to be a camper but still want to spend the week at camp? If so, you might be able to help! There is a limited amount of space for teen helpers, so it is possible that you will not be able to help depending on how many other teens turn in their registration form to help. When looking at helpers, I consider their age, if they have helped in the past, if they came as a camper and how their behavior was then, etc. The number of campers registered, and the number of adult helpers, can also impact how many teen helpers are needed each year. There are several children who come as campers each year, and in order to make sure things run as smoothly as possible, I need to make sure all of my helper spots are filled. I cannot have unneeded teens, or teens that do not have something to keep them busy all day, to try and keep track of on top of the campers. It seems like each year we get more and more teens and young adults that want to come back as helpers, which is a good problem to have as a director, but also can be unfortunate for some younger teens that will not get to attend Camp Victory.
After reading over a description of each job a volunteer helper is needed, please complete the helper registration at the bottom if you are still interested in helping. There is no pay for helping at camp, as we ask for volunteers. This helps to keep the cost lower for the campers. You will receive a cabin to sleep in each night, 3 full meals a day, as well as a snack each night. You will also have an opportunity in the afternoon where you can buy additional snacks and give towards missions.
Cabin/Team Counselor
As a counselor, you will be in charge of a group of children throughout the day, and you will take them to the different activities on a daily basis. You will also eat each meal with them, and set a Christian example for each one. At night, you will have a group of campers in your cabin. You will need to do devotions with them, help them get ready for bed, and wake them each morning. You get to enjoy all the activities with the children!
Group Counselor
These counselors are usually in their first year of being a counselor, or are not needed as a cabin/team counselor, but would be good leaders. They will follow the same schedule every day of the week, but will travel with different teams each day to be an extra set of hands and eyes for the cabin/team counselors. These counselors will sometimes need to step in and cover for a cabin/team counselor that has to leave for a few hours.
Craft
All the craft activities and supplies are ready for the week. If you help with craft, you will be helping the different groups of campers with their craft activity each day. Counselors from each team can also help their campers.
Recreation
All the activities are prepared for the week, and everything you need will be ready for you to use. You will need to set up activities for each day, and run the recreation time with the campers. Each team’s counselors will help keep their campers involved. You will also help run the Fun-Time activity, which is a whole camp activity.
Review
This time is split between snack and review. When helping with Review, the games and supplies will be ready for the week. You may have to set up games for review, and you will need to ask the questions. You may have to write questions during the Missions time. There is usually an adult helper at this activity that you would be assisting.
Snack
When helping with Snack, you will set up the snack area each day, and help the campers buy their afternoon snack. You will also need to help keep track of their money on their bank cards. There are usually at least 1 or 2 adults that you would be helping if you are a teen.
Kitchen Help
You will help the cooks carry out food, prepare meals, and clean up after meals. There is a head cook that will be in charge. He will give you your responsibilities all week.
Miscellaneous
You will help wherever needed. This includes: taking out the trash, taking mail to the mailbox, getting the mail, adding up points, ringing the bell, inspecting cabins, etc. You are willing to help wherever needed!
Registering to Help
If you think you want to volunteer to help at Camp Victory, you will need to click on the link below to sign up. In addition to that, you will need to print and complete the picture release form and medical health form to bring with you the first day of camp.
