COMM 2110- Interpersonal Communication
Communication is a keystone of our everyday functionality; without it, we are lost. We communicate in a variety of ways, verbally and nonverbally. This class emphasizes communication within interpersonal relationships. Here we learn how to make our close relationships even sweeter and our lives smoother.
The greatness of this assignment is in its versatility. Listening is a skill required in most social facets of life. If I want to progress in academia, with loved ones, and business, I must listen well. I wish to work in clinical behavioral and mental health, of which listening is a required skill for competency. People need to feel cared for by their therapists, and I can provide that by actively listening.
I was surprised to see how many commonalities this class had with sociology and social work. I shouldn't have been surprised, as communications is a social science. However, it was interesting to see concepts such as systems theory emerge as they did in other classes. While commonalities were interesting, I'm more enthused to see skills learned in this class applied to others. The skills I gained in this class will assist me as I try to network future research and career opportunities.
