We, the Cambridge Youth Council (CYC), are a diverse group of high school students dedicated to improving the lives of young people through social justice, education, and community building.
In 2020, CYC started an annual fundraiser in collaboration with the CRLS Black Students Union and the Cambridge Community Foundation. This year, we raised over $16,000 for CEOC (Cambridge Economic Opportunity Committee).
This year was CEOC's 60th anniversary. We worked with them to plan their celebration block party and promoted and volunteered at the event.
CYC hosted three engaging events at the Cambridge Public Library.
Art and Game Night offered a lively, welcoming space for youth to express themselves, connect, unwind, and explore their creative interests in a relaxed environment.
Valentine’s Day Celebration brought young people together to make themed crafts, share treats, and celebrate friendship and community spirit in a fun, festive setting.
College Panel included panelists from a range of educational and cultural backgrounds who shared their personal experiences and journeys after high school.
The Mural Subcommittee successfully planned and installed the Cambridge Community Mural in the CRLS cafeteria. We collaborated with professional muralist, Jack O’Hearn and the Community Arts Center. We hosted tabling events and focus groups to find out from students what community means to them. This feedback helped us to design our mural which was officially unveiled in May.

We won $2,000 for this video submission to the National League of Cities contest asking youth how they will shape cities over the next 100 years.
