Matheus Hangula (Front) is seen touring the stands and encouraging young entrepreneurs to be innovative and work hard to grow their businesses. Caltus Institute Namibia organised a free Computer training for the unemployed youth of Tsumeb as way to impart skills and motivate them during this time of COVID 19. The youth in Namibia and Tsumeb in particular are facing a rising challenges as a result of unemployment, and disrupted education which has been made worse by the outbreak of Covid 19 pandemic. For this reason Caltus Institute Namibia realised that there is immediate need to give young people basic computer training due to the fact that computer skills are imperatively becoming a foundation to every career, due to the worlds advancement in technology. This changing environment calls for a transformation in how young people must be thinking about learning and career advancement. Young people must “learn to learn” in order to develop the abilities required to gain new skills and adapt, which will help them start their own businesses if they are luck they can secure work opportunities because its not easy to get a job nowadays. The computer training which some youths have already gone through has improved their confidence very much because most of them came in the training without any knowledge of a computer system but after the training they were very happy that they can now operate computer and in addition this sets a foundation to any other career they may want to venture into.
Awarding of certificates after successfully completing the training
The answer to the above question is “YES”, but young people need to acquire entrepreneurial skills first in order to manage their small businesses profitably. Though entrepreneurship is the answer to youth unemployment, getting started in business is not a ‘walk in the park’. There are plenty of obstacles to overcome, which include: how to set up the business itself, drawing up the business plan, securing capital, and learning necessary book keeping skills which are needed to manage the finances properly. Caltus Institute Namibia in conjunction with other stakeholders is working hand in hand to cultivate the culture of entrepreneurial.
