Audition Instructions:

2. Auditions can be scheduled by contacting Dr. Rickey Badua, Director of Bands, directly via email rhbadua@cpp.edu.

3. Scroll down, and read below for your ensemble audition requirements and print out the appropriate musical excerpt to bring to your audition. Percussion, please scroll to the bottom of this page for your audition excerpts.

Scheduling your classes:

If you intend to perform in a band, then do not schedule any classes during these times:

  • WIND ENSEMBLE: Mondays & Wednesdays, 3:00–4:15 PM (MU 353L Wind Ensemble)
  • SYMPHONIC WINDS: Mondays & Wednesdays, 2:00–2:50 PM (MU 353A Symphonic Wind Ensemble)
  • CONCERT BAND: Mondays & Wednesdays, 4:30–5:45 PM (MU 352L Concert Band)

By avoiding these days & times, you will not create a scheduling conflict between band rehearsal times and your other classes.

Concert Band & Symphonic Winds musicians, please prepare:

1. The provided audition excerpt, see below. Please pay attention to the indicated tempo, style, and optional endings “a” (easy) or “b” (difficult).

2. All 12 major scales (two octaves, when possible), you will perform 3 scales randomly chosen by Dr. Badua. Feel free to use this as a resource:


3. Chromatic scale demonstrating the full range of your instrument (as low and high as you can comfortably play), slurred, and performed as fast as possible.

Concert Band & Symphonic Winds audition excerpts:

Wind Ensemble musicians, please prepare:

1. The provided audition excerpt, see below. Please pay attention to the indicated tempo, style, and optional endings “a” (easy) or “b” (difficult).

2. All 12 major & natural minor scales, you will perform 3 scales randomly chosen by Dr. Badua (two octaves, when possible), performed from memory.

3. Chromatic scale demonstrating the full range of your instrument (as low and high as you can comfortably play), slurred, and performed as fast as possible.

4. Sight-reading chosen by Dr. Badua.
