When I am not working on projects I am awards trying to improve my skillset, a way in which I try to achieve this is by creating show designs for popular shows at the time, which due to my own personal preferences tend to be musicals.Â
Whilst studying at the University of Salford I was tasked with finding a lighting design that I liked to use as inspiration on a project. A production that I enjoyed not only from a musical theatre point of view but also a technical point of view was &Juliet. As a result, I continued to follow the work of the lighting designer Howard Hudson and I continue to use his work as inspiration for my own.Â
Creating these designs allows to work on not only my production design skills but also my software skills. In order to create these designs I have used a mixture of Sketchup for the set construction, Capture visualiser for the renders and lighting plots and on occasion when the size of the rig I have created allows I use ETC eos or ChamSys MagicQ to create and programme lighting states. Whilst these designs will likely never see a stage, I do feel this is a great way for anyone from professionals to students to improve there skills when they don't have access to the physical; equipment, you can design any show with any restrictions you like.Â
This page showcases all these designs and I will continue to add more as I create them...
