Death Valley is an intermontane depression in the western United States in the state of California. The lowest point in North America is located here - 86 meters below sea level. On July 10, 1913, the highest air temperature on Earth in all history was recorded here - +56.7 degrees Celsius.

Death Valley covers 3.3 million acres and is the largest park in the United States and neighboring states. On the west side, the valley is bordered by Telescope Peak and to the east by Dante's View.

Boulders of various sizes are scattered among the bare expanse of the valley - from several kilograms to half a ton in weight. At the same time, stones tend to change their location, leaving noticeable traces of their movement.

The valley got its gloomy name from settlers who crossed it in 1849, trying to get a shortcut to the gold mines of California. The guide briefly stated that "some remained in it forever."
