Welcome, my name is Caleb Bowman and I am a sophomore at OPRFHS. Currently, I reside in River Forest where many "Oak parkers" call us "rofo's". During my freshman year, I was involved in football and volleyball and really enjoyed the enviroment my high school provided. I ended up applying for HYPE towards the end of the year, where we promoted awareness through out the entire school year. Ranging from substance abuse, trying to calm students before finals, and even handing out bracelets with uplifting messages before school as kids arrive, HYPE is a club that proves to keep the school spirit no matter the time of year. This was one of the many qualities of the club that influenced me to join the club.
FRESHMAN YEAR
Freshman year football with OPRFHS was a great experience and I was even able to connect with other players which helped my transition into highschool. Although our record wasn't as good as expected (3-6), we still grew to become a team which meant way more than being in first.
Coming into such a diverse environment, it was a bit overwhelming at fisrt. However, my middle school friends helped keep me uplifted and aimed to always embrace our childish hobbies. We continued to roam around River Forest and Oak Park on our bikes and became more knowledgeable about where we live.
In the past, I've always attempted to keep my grades around the same A-range they were in during middle school. However, most of my teachers forgot to brace us students for how much more critical you would have to think in highschool than you would in your younger years. Freshman year really challenged my intelligence, as I was going from only one accelerated class to 5 within just months. I even went on to play 2 sports that year , which regularly took time away from me after school and overall put a lot of stress on me. Which is why, towards the end of my Freshman school year, I decided to sign up for a club that could get me more involved in the school, instead of just playing sports. HYPE club reached out to me and I went in for the interview where I was one of the few selected. This made the building way more enjoyable to be in and helped ease the stress away from the work side of school. It would only be the 4th day of summercamp football that my ACL and meniscus tears during a drill, leaving me injured and stripping me away of any football career I had ever dreamed of.
BACKGROUND + ACCOMPLISHMENTS
One of my main goals is graduating college and having a stable income, while doing something I enjoy. However, due to my situation, another goal is to be able to run and walk properly soon. Having a severe injury at such a young age was really hard on me and my family, which is why I want to recover as fast as possible, so we don't have to worry anymore.
GOALS
I like engaging in different environments and working with my HYPE club to promote awareness about substance abuse and other trending topics depending the month. Along with that, I enjoy working with my fellow student ambassadors, handing out school gear and uplifting the school spirit as always! Weekends tend to be my favorite because I'm able to end them off working at my local ice cream parlor.
