“Patchworks of Beauty”: the way we made this painting shows all the ways to bring beauty to my world. I even used things that were trash to make this painting and to protect the environment. The way you put them on your picture makes them beautiful and that’s an important purpose in life. And it can help bring purpose because we can make the fish have clean water. It’s all about how you look at things because beautiful things are all around.

A Chance to Swim / I made a picture of the Rocky Mountains because I care really deeply about capturing natural places and how beautiful they are. I have a lot of trouble with reading and I don't like school very much. It's much harder for me than other kids and I feel useless and terrible in school. Sometimes, I feel stupid. But I never feel that way with art. When I paint, I come alive and I know what I'm supposed to do. I mixed the paint myself and made sure that I showed my best work because I care really deeply about my art.

Title: Riding Bluebird
Description: I have a sense of purpose in mountain biking because it is bigger than me! The trails and the natural world is bigger than me. It makes me feel happy because it feels never ending. It feels magical to ride my bike out there. I smell the trees, I hear the creeks or rivers babbling through some areas, or the wind whistling through the tops of the trees. It feels like wind pushing on me. I feel fast and free. I don’t feel sad or angry or stuff like that. When I’m mountain biking, my heavy feelings go away. It really helps me get some movement in my body and I get exercise in it. When I exercise, it makes me stronger. I feel like a hero when I get through hard biking- like rock obstacles or big huge uphills. Riding my mountain bike makes me believe in myself. This is why I’m passionate about it.

“Re-Purposing”: My art illustrates the theme of purpose and passion because it illustrates purposeful commitment to diversity and helping the environment. Every square is different so it is diverse in many ways. One square is 3d with clay while another is painted with watercolors. One of the important things we should do in life is create diversity of perspective. Also, we made it with old things (re-purposing) we found which helps the environment and illustrates how we can be committed to the environment.

Tigers represent a powerful purpose as they are strong and move with intention across the land. The garden is a beautiful representation of a passion of the artist and of several off-the-grid community members. It seems these days people are more and more passionate about being self-sufficient; desiring to "make it on their own", and the garden blended with the tiger represent an intention to sustain a powerful independence.

The color of each star represents a unique purpose, but is also related to all the stars around it. One can’t exist without the others. This reflects how each person has its own individual passion, and can spread light and color to others in their own original way.

This piece relates to the theme passion and purpose because, my passion has always been to create art that makes people happy with color and pencil. The bold colors and dynamic composition reflect a desire to understand one's place in the world. Each face and eye appears to seek something different, yet all merge into a unified whole, suggesting a journey of finding purpose amidst chaos.

Reading a Burning Book
This art piece shows six books that are infamous for their censorship after publication. With each panel, it shows the book being defiled in some way with the ghosts of the characters caught in the mix, and a quote from the book above it. Banning books is like withholding the secrets to society. Schools are meant to teach, so it's simply cruel to withhold information. The books I used are as follows:
Upper Left: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Upper Center: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Upper Right: Lord of the Flies by William Golding
Bottom Left: The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
Bottom Center: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
Bottom Right: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

I am Colorado History / I am a sixth generation Colorado native and this piece represents my family's past purpose and my present passion shaking hands. The saddle was an integral part of my family's (and my) purpose when we homesteaded in Last Chance, CO. We ranched several other locations and the collage around the saddle skirt are copies of my family's photos taken up and down the Front Range as we discovered new passion in our home state. The saddle had one purpose - new chances, new life and represents a discovered passion - ranching in a way that was organic and sustainable. Now, it's been given new life, new purpose. The paint pour represents my passion for making new life and new purpose out of the things that mean so much to me.

The artwork called “Keep On Forward” for me means follow the track you’re at, follow your dreams, be happy, not being afraid of what’s in front of you, never leave the track you are at, because thinks can get a little bit tricky, meet other people, make friends, and also getting over things that can be hard, that’s what my artwork means to me, being free and not letting things stop you.

The title of my artwork is Snow in the lamp light. I did this because my most favorite time is when the snow is falling at night and you can see the snow in the lamplight. Sometimes I’ll just stand there and catch the snow. I feel that I am so passionate for this time and setting. I feel that my purpose is to show people how this makes me feel which is thankful, blessed and of course passionate.

So when I thought of purpose and passion, I thought of something that can both destroy and create a person. So what better way to represent the idea of destruction and creation than with a universe. The dress represents a universe, that is worn by a ballerina.

Finding Home
My piece depicts a woman walking in a forest toward a home. The home represents purpose, and the lantern she’s using to light her way, along with the fireflies dotting the path, represents passion. She is finding her purpose, where she belongs, by following her passions, the things she loves.

In the realm of abstract realism, "The Pensive Man" stands as a compelling testament to the themes of passion and purpose. This painting masterfully blends vivid, emotionally charged hues with a contemplative composition, capturing the essence of introspection.
The artwork features a solitary figure rendered with striking realism but set against a backdrop of swirling, dynamic patterns. This contrast highlights the central theme of internal conflict and reflection. The pensive man's furrowed brow and deep-set eyes suggest a profound inner dialogue, while the vibrant brushstrokes surrounding him evoke the turbulence of passion and the quest for meaning.

“Ikigai” Ikigai is a Japanese philosophy for finding your purpose and passion. I chose a blossoming cherry tree which is native to Japan to symbolize this concept. I believe that to find your passion you often have to get a different perspective including ones from other cultures.

Title: Casting Light on the Odyssey - Beautifully Broken Angel
This piece depicts a girl holding a lantern, with horns and wings, representing the duality and complexity of life. The lantern symbolizes her guiding purpose, lighting her way through darkness and uncertainty. The horns and wings reflect the internal struggle between opposing forces-earthly desires and higher aspirations, good and evil, or struggle and triumph.
Through this image, I aim to express that finding one's purpose often involves facing inner battles and embracing both strengths and weaknesses. The light of the lantern represents the passion that drives her forward, while the wings suggest her desire to rise above challenges. The horns symbolize the obstacles

Mind the Eyes: My purpose and passion is to create and inspire others, when I do create whether it be physical art or preforming arts there is an element of being watched. A lot of the time we can’t see the passion we put into something until someone else does, but that’s what makes creating worth it, our purpose is to challenge personal perspective and hope they can feel what you are trying to express.

“Alchemists”
Grade 10, SVVSD
Black people have always been able to take pain and turn it into beauty. We create something extraordinary when we’re given something “disposable.” We process our trauma through creation. We have been overlooked by society in many ways, yet we are the most influential group of people in the world. Chains used to be a way to entrap and restrict enslaved people, but future generations reclaimed them as a fashion statement (as shown in this piece). Black people’s purpose in this country used to be to work, survive, and undergo extreme abuse, but we were able to transform our experiences, and intertwine them with our passions, as true alchemists.

An abstract way of representing how messy and complicated finding your purpose is, only to find that the purpose in life is what you’re passionate about, no matter how small it may seem. My passions are shown throughout the work, such as the guitar for music, the robin, flowers, and fish for nature, and the desire for romantic interest (bottom right corner).

The Burnout: This artwork represents my passion and purpose in spreading awareness of the journey through personal transformation. It explores the pain, loss of innocence, and healing that comes with growth. The lit match I hold in my youth represents confidence and self-esteem. Though the light diminishes through hardship as we grow older, we often feel "burnt out" and rejected from these experiences. The butterflies emerging, however, symbolize a start to healing and transformation. Even when the flame fades, there is still beauty in the process of change and recovery. I wanted to illustrate that the loss of innocence can lead to healing - a necessary process that should be embraced and shared with those who can relate.

Mundane Inspiration: In the middle of the night, a glowing figure opens the fridge. Planty: My inspiration for the piece stemmed from watching my mother and sister thoughtfully caring for their plants. They've been growing their affection and collection over the past three years. As each new plant entered our home, I started fostering a fascination for caring and nurturing living things that bring vibrancy to our house. The painting depicts my hands caught in a gentle, uncertain moment before snapping the scissors shut on a stem during my first-ever attempt at plant propagation, reflecting my self-doubt and insecurity in learning something for the first time. In a way, I think of the painting as an homage to my, my mother's, and my sister's persistence through trial and error in learning to nurture plants and dealing with triumphs and setbacks - all in pursuit of a developing passion. I wanted to express that effortless instance of support for another creature I observed from my family and how a small deed can benefit both parties. Through cultivating, I've found that I have a calling to help others through the power of plants and nature. I hope that by showcasing the elegant colors and unique structures of various flora throughout my artwork, I can bring the healing joy of nature to others and inspire the growth and resilience that I see in my family and my plants.
