Sri Lanka - But Not the One You’ve Heard About!!

For years, we skipped Sri Lanka. Not because it wasn’t beautiful, but because every itinerary looked the same—tourist buses stopping at monuments, tea factories, and the usual sightseeing spots, followed by meals at South Indian restaurants with fixed schedules. That’s not us.

So, we went searching. Digging deep. And what we found blew us away. Hidden trails, uncharted terrains, and adventures no one has ever dared to put together. A version of Sri Lanka that is similar to our wildest experiences in the Western Ghats—raw, unpredictable, and completely off the radar.

We’ve skipped the usual and gone straight for the wild side. Abseiling down a 400-foot waterfall, canyoneering through rugged gorges, rafting through untamed rapids—This is Sri Lanka, CAC style.

🧗 ITINERARY

🇱🇰 Day-1 (Sun, 28-Dec):

Arrive in Negombo, Sri Lanka

Arrive in Negombo, Sri Lanka (Bandaranaike International Airport – CMB) early in the morning. As your flight lands during the early hours, accommodation near the airport has been arranged for your comfort.
After early breakfast, we will head straight to Kandy, a city that feels warm and welcoming from the start.
On the way to Kandy, let's visit the Sacred Tooth Relic, a temple filled with history and a calm, peaceful vibe. Then comes a little adventure—climbing Ambuluwawa Tower. The spiral staircase makes it exciting, and the view from the top is something we’ll all remember.
And this is just the beginning. The real adventure is yet to come!

🇱🇰 Day-2 (Mon, 29-Dec):

Lizard's spine hike

After an early breakfast, we will start our exciting hike to Katusukonda, a rocky ridge in the Hanthana Mountain Range, also called the ‘Lizard’s Spine’ in Sinhalese.
The hike is not too difficult but full of adventure, with amazing views of the green valleys around us. When we reach the narrow ridge at the top, we will feel the thrill of standing between two steep drops on either side!
At the peak, we will rest and enjoy our packed picnic lunch, taking in the beautiful scenery before heading back down.
Once we finish the hike, we will continue our journey to the small town of Kitulgala, where more adventures await!

🇱🇰 Day-3 (Tue, 30-Dec):

Adventure Amidst Cascades and Rapids

We start the day in Kitulgala with a short hike through lush green forests to a hidden waterfall. Get ready for an adrenaline rush as we take a thrilling 50-foot dive into the natural pool below!
Next, we’ll gear up for a 70-foot abseiling descent, a perfect practice run before the ultimate challenge—abseiling down the mighty Laxapana Falls. After the adventure, we’ll relax and enjoy the lower cascades before a well-earned lunch.
In the afternoon, the excitement continues as we raft down the Kelani River, tackling Class II and III rapids, perfect for both beginners and thrill-seekers.
By evening, we’ll unwind at a cozy bungalow with breathtaking views of Laxapana Waterfall and the majestic Saptha Kanya peaks, ending the day in pure serenity.

🇱🇰 Day-4 (Wed, 31-Dec):

Laxapana abseiling

Today, we take on the biggest thrill of our journey—abseiling down one of the most daring adventures yet! Get ready to descend 400 feet down this towering cascade, feeling the rush of water and the sheer excitement of the challenge.
As you make your way down, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the Saptha Kanya (Seven Virgins) peaks, making this an unforgettable experience. After conquering the descent, you can cool off with a refreshing dip by the waterfall.
With this, we wrap up the adventurous part of our journey and shift to a more relaxed exploration in the coming days.
By evening, we’ll head to Ella, a true backpacker’s paradise, where adventure meets tranquility. Beyond the breathtaking landscapes, Ella comes alive with cozy cafés, unique restaurants, and a buzzing nightlife, making it the perfect place to unwind and explore.
Spend the night at Sri Lanka’s most famous party hub, where music, lights, and a lively crowd create an unforgettable atmosphere to welcome the New Year.

🇱🇰 Day-5 (Thu, 1-Jan):

A day in Ella

Spend the day like a true traveler—riding around in tuk-tuks, explore the charming streets of Ella. We’ll visit the stunning Nine Arch Bridge, an iconic railway marvel surrounded by lush greenery, perfect for that last breathtaking photo.
After that, we’ll hop between cozy cafés, enjoying delicious local treats and soaking in the laid-back vibe of this backpacker’s paradise.
By the day's end, we’ll head down south to the coastal regions to enjoy the rich flavors of Sri Lankan food while taking in beautiful ocean views. Fresh seafood like prawns, calamari, and local fish is served at cozy beachfront restaurants, giving you a taste of the island's best.

🇱🇰 Day-6 (Fri, 2-Jan):

Sun, Surf & Heritage

The day is yours to explore the beach of town Mirissa, soak in its coastal charm, or dive into exciting water sports.
Try your hand at riding the waves along Sri Lanka’s southern coast. With several surf schools around, Weligama is the perfect spot for a beginner-friendly surfing adventure.
Step into history as you wander through the charming streets of Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore its colonial architecture, quaint cafés, boutique shops, and stunning views of the ocean from the fort walls
Later, we’ll head back to Negombo by mid night to catch our flights back to India.

❌ Exclusions:

- International Flight tickets (Approx ₹22,000 from/to Chennai)
- Tourist Visa (Currently its free)
- Travel insurance (Approx ₹600)
- Entry tickets which are not included in the day-wise itinerary above (Tooth relic: ₹600)
- Meals which are not included in the day-wise itinerary above.
- Cost incidental to any change in the itinerary/stay on account of flight cancellation, ill health, roadblocks, landslides, floods, cyclone and/or any factors beyond control. If flights get cancelled due to weather, we will arrange alternative stay at an additional minimal cost.

🧗 GENERAL INFO

Basics:

Total number of slots: 14
Age group: 18 to 40
A valid Indian Passport with at least 6 months validity (from the travel date) is required.
Gender ratio: To encourage female travelers, we will ensure that there is a min of 40% female participants.
Couples are welcome to register. The total number of couples in the trip will be limited to one.
Please note that there could be small changes in the itinerary due to local restrictions, and suitable alternative plans will made in such cases.
All activities are subject to weather and local govt. rules.
We will assist you to get your currency exchanged before your travel.

Eligibility:

First preference for solo participants and couples.
Generally, we don't allow group participation in any of our trips. However, you are permitted to bring along one of your friends or a family member with you.
Selection for the trip will be at the complete discretion of Coimbatore Adventure Club. Please send us the payment only if you get a confirmation from us. We will be keeping 50:50 ratio for repeating participants and new participants.

Flights:

We recommend that you book the flights yourself for the best fares.
We will guide you with flight bookings to ensure the group travels together. At the time of confirmation, we’ll inform you about the specific flights that need to be booked. We can also assist if you require any additional help with flight bookings.
Flights have to be booked as mentioned below:
- Onward flight: Land in Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), Negombo any time before 8AM on 28-Dec.
- Return flight: Fly from Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), Negombo any time after 1AM on 03-Jan.
Please book flights only after you make the advance payment for the trip, and after receiving an acknowledgement from CAC about your slot confirmation.
Airport pickup and drop are included only if you choose our recommended flights or arrive within 1 hour of the suggested flight time in the same airport.

Food:

Vegetarian food will be available in all places.
We expect all those who join us to enjoy Sri Lankan local food.

Accommodations:

- All accommodations will be separate for male and female participants.
- Accommodations are Double/Triple/Quad sharing.
- Separate double rooms for couples can be arranged for all days at an additional cost. Contact us for details.

Be a responsible traveler:

- Remember we are visiting another country, and it is important to respect local traditions and culture. Be kind to everyone.

Others:

Detailed information on things to carry, mobile SIM cards, connectivity, and do's and don'ts will be provided post confirmation for the trip.

Payment details:

Confirm your spot with an initial payment of ₹15,000 and it is non-refundable and non-transferable.
- Balance to be settled during the trip in USD or LKR.
- Note: Advance payments can also be made through credit cards. EMI options are also available.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellation by participant:

- Advance paid during trip confirmation is strictly non-refundable at any circumstances, as we group book the transports, accommodations and activities. Also note that the advance payment will strictly be not transferrable to someone else or to a future trip, in case you are not joining the trip.
- Cancellations made within 15 days of the trip require participants to cover 75% of the total trip cost, since most bookings are confirmed and non-refundable by this stage. You will be required to settle the applicable amount. Please note that non-compliance may affect your eligibility for future trips with CAC.

Cancellation due to unforeseen situations beyond our control:

- In the event of trip cancellations due to natural calamities or unforeseen circumstances (e.g., extreme weather, political unrest, or government-imposed restrictions)—essentially, any situation beyond CAC’s control—cancellation charges up to ₹2,000 will be non-refundable. The remaining amount can be fully transferred to rescheduled dates or applied to any other trip of your choice.

Selection Process:

Registration: If you are interested in joining this trip, please complete your registration by clicking on the link provided at the end of this itinerary.
Invitation and Selection Process: Once you register, shortlisted participants will receive an official invitation to join the trip along with details for making the advance payment. Please note that the selection process is solely at the discretion of Coimbatore Adventure Club. If all slots are filled, we will notify you and place you on a waitlist.
Advance Payment: Shortlisted participants will receive advance payment instructions. Your slot for the trip will be confirmed only upon successful payment of the advance.
Flight Tickets: After your advance payment is processed and confirmed by us, you may proceed to book your flight tickets.
Note: Registering for the trip via the provided link does not guarantee a slot. Confirmation is subject to the selection process and availability of slots.

Important Notice:

Coimbatore Adventure Club reserves the right to remove any participant from the trip at any time if they engage in any illicit or inappropriate behavior. This policy is in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all travelers. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
