DAI Main Verse
Hailing from the Fallow Mire, she attributes her survival to a spirit that she swears protected her from the worst of it. She escaped death by the plague and, being that she was one of the only ones left of her village, it was join the Inquisition as a healer or see if the local Avvar hold would take her in. They didn't seem very friendly to outsiders, so she traveled to Haven to aid in caring for the refugees.
Originally, she was a Circle mage, studying the Fade and spirits specifically. She passed her Harrowing; however, one of the Templars at the Circle claimed her magic was too volatile and that she was too friendly to spirits to risk it, and they made her Tranquil at the age of twenty-three.
They later loaned her home village in the Fallow Mire to apprentice under their physician. There, she learned how to make potions and treat all manner of illnesses for three years. It wasn't until the plague hit that a spirit of hope found her and protected her from the worst of it. It inadvertently undid the Tranquility during this period, and the two were permanently joined. She has kept the union a secret, only telling people that once it was discovered that the Rite of Tranquility could be undone, she was one of the few they tried it on. Jalon is mostly mild-mannered, although large amounts of suffering can lead to a small outburst or breakdown.
After joining the Inquisition, she took her place as a spirit healer among the other mages and physicians who volunteered to help the organization.
She can be found outside Adan's workspace in Haven, and in the infirmary at Skyhold.

Personal Quest:
Her personal quest takes the Inquisitor to the Circle where Jalon was, looking for an artifact that the Circle used to protect. It turns out to be an Elvhen Focus. She's very uncomfortable with the excursion and hovers close to the Inquisitor during their trip. She says little until after, but during she only answers questions with one or two words; anything more than that, and she refuses to answer at all. She's not hostile, but she's not warm and fuzzy either.
It's during this trip that the Inquisitor finds out that she was Tranquil, if they didn't already know from extended dialogue with her previously. After the trip, if the approval is high enough by this point, she'll admit to her bond with Hope. If not, she will continue with the story that she was an experiment for undoing the Rite of Tranquility.
By the end of the trip, the Focus is found, but Solas will say that it is no longer functional after the trip when he's had time to study it.
