This Privacy Policy describes how Bursar:Split Fair Settle Even. ("we", "our", or "the app") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application and web application.
Email address or phone number — used to create and access your account
Display name — shown to other members of your group
Expense records — amounts, notes, categories, and dates that you enter
Contact phone number — optional, only if you choose to add it for group members to recognize you
Group information — group names, member lists, and settlement records
Authentication data — login tokens stored on your device to keep you signed in
Device preferences — your last used group and login method, stored locally on your device only
We use the information you provide solely to:
Create and manage your account
Display your name and balances to members of your group
Sync expense and settlement data across devices in real time
Allow group members to identify and communicate with each other
We do not:
Sell your data to any third party
Use your data for advertising
Share your data with anyone outside your group
Process real payments or hold any funds
All data is stored securely using Google Firebase, which includes:
Firebase Authentication — manages your login credentials
Cloud Firestore — stores your group, expense, and member data
Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Firebase's security practices apply to all stored data. You can review Google Firebase's privacy policy at: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
Your password is never stored in plain text. Login credentials saved on your device are stored in the app's private storage, inaccessible to other apps.
Your data is shared only within your group — meaning other members of a group you belong to can see:
Your display name
Your expense contributions
Your balance (what you owe or are owed)
Your optional contact phone number (if you added it)
No data is shared with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party outside of Firebase services.
Your data is retained as long as your account exists and you remain a member of a group. When:
You leave a group — your membership record is removed from that group
A group is deleted — all data associated with that group is permanently deleted
You request account deletion — contact us at the email below and we will delete all your data within 30 days
You have the right to:
Access your data — all your data is visible within the app
Correct your data — you can update your name and contact details in the app
Delete your data — contact us to request full deletion of your account and data
Export your data — use the Excel export feature in the app to download your group's data
Bursar is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
We use the following third-party service:
Google Firebase (Google LLC)
Purpose: Authentication, data storage, and real-time sync
Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Data Processing Location: Google's global infrastructure (primary region: Asia South)
We do not use any advertising networks, analytics tracking, or other third-party data processors.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
