What is CBD?

So, what is CBD then?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid found in the Cannabis plant. And is completely legal in the UK.

A cannabinoid is one of a class of diverse chemical compounds that acts on cannabinoid receptors (found mainly in the brain and in the immune system).

There are at least 113 different cannabinoids isolated from Cannabis (so far), exhibiting varied effects. The two main cannabinoids that have been researched heavily are THC (the stuff that gets you high) and CBD (the stuff that doesn't get you high).

CBD is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid found in the flowers of the hemp plant. CBD was once over-shadowed by THC (the compound in Cannabis that causes a buzz/stoned effect) but in the last five years there has been a dramatic increase in scientific research into CBD.

CBD Hemp Oil

There are different types of Cannabis plants, all with different cannabinoid structures. All of the CBD products budca stocks are derived from the Cannabis Sativa L plant, also known as hemp. This type of Cannabis plant has very low legal levels of THC and high concentrations of CBD, making it perfect for CBD products.

Hemp has been used for thousands of years. An amazingly versatile plant, used for its fibres, seeds and flowers – all of which have a vast variety of uses.

How is CBD produced?

There are three main processes for making CBD oil but we choose brands that use the most efficient way to protect the good of the Cannabis plant:

SUPERCRITICAL CO2 EXTRACTION METHOD

The supercritical CO2 extraction method is the safest, and most efficient method of CBD extraction, however, it is also the most expensive.

Lab techs use state of the art equipment to create phase changes in carbon dioxide by utilizing temperature and pressure. The carbon dioxide is cooled and compressed to upwards of 10,000 psi – by comparison your car tyre is pressurized to about 300 psi. When compressed to these extremes, CO2 becomes ‘supercritical’, which simply means that it converts to liquid when placed under extreme pressure.

Cannabis Oil

In this supercritical state, the CO2 possesses the properties of a liquid and gas at the same time. The CO2 is then heated up and passed through the Cannabis in a closed loop extractor, without causing harm to any heat-sensitive nutrients like enzymes or vitamins.

The result of this process is a released and recycled CO2 that leaves a highly concentrated, totally pure extract that is more easily digested by the body. The CBD oil that comes through supercritical extraction is a full spectrum cannabinoid product that is transparent with a light amber color.

Supercritical CO2 extraction is also the key to understanding more cannabinoids in cannabis like Cannabichromene (CBC) and cannabicitran (CBT) and how they interact with each other (called the Entourage effect).

Think of CO2 extraction a bit like cold pressing fruit juice, but for Cannabis, and with lots more whizzy bits of tech to give the best output.

How will CBD effect me?

This is where it gets tricky. You see, whilst we are able to sell and consume CBD in the UK, we are not allowed to make any medical claims (March 2018), as CBD is sold as a food supplement to maintain optimal health, rather than to diagnose, treat or cure. Please speak to your doctor to understand more on the effects of consuming CBD. We hope that the legal system in the UK can catch up with the needs of the population so that more open conversations can take place on this subject.

What we can say is that everyone is different, so dosage will be different from person to person. Please don't think because you weigh more or less than someone else it means you will need more or less.
