In The Secret History, the story follows Richard Papen, a student from a modest background who enrolls at an elite liberal arts college in Vermont. As Richard grows closer to them, he becomes drawn into their strange, intellectual, and increasingly morally fraught world. The story traces the build-up to a friend’s death, and then follows the aftermath: how the group handles guilt, secrets, and the ripple effects of their actions.
