North is adapted from the 1984 novel North: The Tale of a 9-Year-Old Boy Who Becomes a Free Agent by Alan Zweibel. The film follows the same premise—about a boy trying to find new parents—but adds more comedic skits and satirical world-travel sequences to emphasize its humor.

North, a gifted young boy who feels unappreciated by his parents, decides to declare himself a “free agent.” Granted the unusual right to choose new parents anywhere in the world, he embarks on a global journey, meeting families from different cultures and lifestyles. Along the way, North learns important lessons about family, belonging, and what truly matters at home.
