Three Patrols of Troop 810 and the Cub Scouts of Pack 810 met at Assumption Church at 8:00 AM to undertake “Yard Charge”. On the beautiful autumn morning, everyone was excited to rake leaves and enjoy the terrific day, helping others who are less fortunate in Broadview Heights. We separated into two groups, with each group assigned four yards each to rake. Before setting out on our trek, we took a minute for a group photo and some fun and games. The caravan of cars, vans and trucks were set, and we were off with our rakes and water. The yards ranged in size from small to some as big as 4 acres. It took the troop and pack a total of 5 hours to rake the leaves in all of the yards with the help of two leaf blowers and an armada of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts with rakes. Those doing their good turn for the day were Ben(W), Chris, DJ, David H., Donald, Greg, Jacob D., Jacob W., John, Jordan, Kevin, Matthew M., Nick, Peter, Ryan, Steven, Will(W), Mr. Dzurnak, Mr. Makowski, Mr. Makowski, Mr. Rickert, Mr. Schnack(W), Mr. Svihlik, and Mrs. Verhovnik.
Afterwards the troop went to Hemlock Creek to camp, and the Cub Scouts went home tired. The scouts unloaded the cars and setup camp under the guidance of the senior patrol leader. A fire was started, and leftover rigatoni from rigatoni dinner fundraiser was reheated for dinner. Some of the boys climbed the humungous hill while others stayed back and relaxed by the fire, playing cards or socializing. Night fell and the evening wore on until the scouts went to bed. The scouts woke up at 7:00 am. and packed up camp. Before everyone departed for home, there was a closing prayer. It was a wonderful experience camping, especially in the autumn amongst the colorful trees. Enjoying the night of camping were David H., DJ, Donald, Greg, Jacob W., John V., Jordan, Matthew M., Matthew O., Nick, Ryan, Steven, Mr. Dzurnak, Mr. Makowski and Mr. Mayher.
