Scouting 360

May 4-6, 2007

Berea, OH

Scouting 360 was a great success with many troops from the council attending. The event began Friday night by hiking in with our personal gear from the cars. It was a nice day and there was plenty of scenery to take in coming through the Metroparks and into Berea. Once we arrived at the fairgrounds our troop setup camp with others from the Cuyahoga Valley District in a rather snug campsite. After setup we had a snack and played a few games before getting ready for a good night's sleep.

Saturday came bright and early with excellent spring weather. Everyone pitched in to fix a tasty breakfast. It was then time to start the day with the troops assembling and marching to the opening flag ceremony. When the ceremony finished we were free to visit the exhibits and participate in many different activities such as...

  • Revolutionary war reenactment
  • Civil war reenactment
  • NASA simulators
  • Animal exhibit from the zoo
  • Order of the Arrow dance team
  • Train exhibit
  • Scout shop
  • Army climbing wall
  • Coast guard helicopter
  • Flying model airplanes
  • Merit badge midway

Rather than spend time cooking lunch at the site everyone was free to stop at the concession stands and pick up what they wanted. The afternoon was filled with more to see and do. By the time supper came around we were exhausted and the scrumptious taco dinner was a great treat. The majority of the troop attended mass after dinner. In the evening the entire encampment lined up for a march to the campfire area where they had many interesting skits and songs.

Everything went smoothly Sunday morning for an uneventful exodus. We got up, packed, ate a quick breakfast and left for home. Those doing a 360 were Alex, Allen, Chris, David(Sat), Donald, Greg, Jacob D, Jacob W, John, Kevin, Matt Ka(1), Matthew M, Matthew O(Sat), Nick, Steven, Tom(1), Will(Sat), Mr. Dzurnak, Mr. Makowski, Mr. and Mrs. Mayher.
