Parish Festival

August 12-14, 2005

Broadview Heights, OH

Members of the troop put in a great many service hours before, during, and after the parish festival. Anytime a need came up we were there to lend a hand. It was very windy when we set up camp on Friday night. Our group and other festival workers spent time setting up chairs and tables, put together the chicken barbecue pit, and straightened things up. The wind calmed down before it was time to get some sleep. The next morning we awoke and started the day with a pancake breakfast. Scouts not on cooking detail set up a gateway for our campsite. The campsite looked pretty sharp when it was completed. The rest of the day was a lot of odd jobs getting the booths ready. We moved cases of pop, set up tarps, put together the stage, dance floor, and many other tasks. In no time at all it was time for the procession and start of the festival. Members of the troop performed a flag raising during a remembrance for service members killed in Iraq. The booths and games opened afterwards with a car show, live bands playing inside and out along with plenty of good food. The weather turned wet and we ended up moving a lot of things into the Family Center. There was a threat of high winds, thunder, and lightning so the troop spent the night in the fellowship room rather than in our tents. In the morning we woke early and went to 7:30am mass. After mass we ate a quick breakfast and then worked on shucking corn for the chicken dinners. Once that was completed we took down camp. With camp down people were free to continue working or head home for some needed rest after all their hard work day. Those who voluteered at the festival were Chris, David, DJ, Eric, Joey J., Joey P., Justin(1), Kyle, Nate, Matt S., Matthew, Steven J.(1), Steven M., Mr. Dzurnak, Mr. Makowski, Mr. Mayher, and Mr. Svihlik.

A nice view of our campsite.

Volleyball anyone?

Finest bunch of corn shuckers in Broadview Heights.

Plan for Parish Festival

The Church of the Assumption Festival is a great opportunity for the troop to give back to our Charter Organization. As a troop we will be helping out with the booths, car show, and other tasks. Anyone interested can spend Friday and Saturday night camping on the parish grounds.

UNIFORM: We will be wearing both Class "A" and Class "B" uniforms throughout the weekend. Class "B" is either Troop 810 T-shirt or Summer Camp T-shirt and scout shorts. This is a must for showing off our troop and allowing other festival workers an easy way to identify us. Bring along an extra scout T-shirt for Saturday evening.

For the duration of the weekend there will be opportunities to take breaks or go home for a period of time to get cleaned up. All scouts MUST check out with an adult leader before leaving the site and check in upon return.
