I asked Brother and all they told me were the files that could be printed/scanned (i.e. PDF, DOC/DOCX, XLS/XLSX, PPT/PPTX, JPEG/PNG) not why .odt files were ignored. However, I have asked them directly and await reply.

I know I can (and do) print/scan directly from my computer or from the printer itself. I just wonder if Brother has got something against open source files. A bit petty if they have.

Since I recently update my iMac to 10.15 Catalina, I then had to update the software on my Brother MFC-J6530DW printer. Everything worked fine for a while but now I can't print or scan directly from my mac. Tried downloading the Brother software again and it couldn't find my printer even though it is connected to my home network. Have contacted Brother support 3 times and followed their instructions but still with no luck. I am thinking that this may be an Apple issue rather than brother.?

In the meantime I have downloaded the iPrint & Scan app and I can now scan from my printer, but when I wish to print I only have the option to print photos and cannot print documents? Does anyone know how to print anything other than photos using this app? A despairing thankyou.

Just use the default values unless you have some experience with it. Then re-install the printer following the quick install instructions. If you then decide you need its benefits then re-install that as well and see if it is going to work for you this time around.

Thanks but I have already done the uninstall/reinstall, like multiple times. And I have already used the printer for months without the "iprint&scan" software. But need it to do multi-page scans to PDF.

Brother iprint&scan works fine on my other computers with the same Windows version and the same updates. But your theory re a incomplete or corrupt Windows update sounds like a plausible explanation worth a try. I am paying especially attention to any Windows update patches on this computer, but I will never say never so will try to uninstall the mentions KB's and test between each uninstall. I'll run a full backup first just in case, so this will take me a few hours and I don't have that until the coming weekend. But will certainly try this and post back here.

I also thought about trying an older version of Brother iprint&scan but could not find any old versions anywhere. My printer is a DCP-T710W, but I think this software supports any Brother printer with scanning capabilities. So any old version should work, unless maybe versions older than my printer.

There are two ways to scan your assignment document for submission to your CDLI teacher. As shown in the image below, you can use either the flatbed (scanner glass) or the document feeder. The flatbed (scanner glass) is suited for a page document or graphic whereas the document feeder is suited for assignments with multiple pages (this method will be used for most assignments).

The first thing you must do before you scan is to set up the Scan Setting features that are appropriate for the material you are scanning.
