We accept submissions in the following genres: Prose (fiction and nonfiction), poetry, hybrid/experimental, and multimedia. Each genre has specific formatting guidelines that need to be followed carefully, so be sure to check the guidelines for the genre you are submitting to as well.

We accept simultaneous submissions, however, please let us know as soon as possible if your piece is accepted elsewhere.

Each submission must accompany a brief cover letter, contact information (i.e., your email address), and a third-person bio between 50 and 100 words. We ask for your email address so that we may (a) notify you of your submission status, and (b) work with you on any edits should your submission be accepted.

We accept submissions in .docx/.doc, .pdf, .png, or .jpg format. The submission documents must not accompany any identifying information (e.g., author name), including the document title. For ease of labor, we kindly ask that you name your documents in the following way: GENRE_TITLE (e.g., POETRY_RAINFALL).

In general, we only accept previously unpublished work, but, we do not count a personal website or a social media post. However, we do ask that if you have "published" the piece before on your personal website or a social media post that you let us know. If we find out that your piece has been previously published (other than in the above mentioned ways), the piece will be rejected along with all future submissions. 

By submitting to Broken Alidade, you affirm that the work is your own and unpublished. If accepted, we request first serial rights and non-exclusive rights to archive the work permanently on our website. We may also publish the accepted work in both digital and print formats. If we wish to publish your work in a future anthology, we will contact you for permission. All other rights remain with the author. If the work is republished elsewhere, we ask that Broken Alidade be credited as the original publisher.
