Comparing the Traditional Timber vs the Modern Composites

There was a time when traditional wood was the only source for building crafty decks, fences and furniture. But with research and development, a combination of wood and plastic formed the composites that offer unique benefits and advantages from the traditional wood. At Brite Decking we are manufacturing these composites for residential and commercial use. Here are some of the striking differences between traditional wood and modern-day composites.

Resistant to External factors

Timber has 10-15% moisture content inside them and when this dries out results into cracks or splinters. Even if it absorbs moisture its wells width-wise. On the other hand, Composites have plastic as a core element that absorbs heat too but gaps allow them to expand and contract not affecting them structurally.

Timber based decking has porous nature and often will absorb moisture if not maintained properly. This moisture retention makes timber products more susceptible to rot. Composites have a very low 0.5% absorption rate protecting the product from any decay and rotting.

Timber will lose their colour and fade if left untreated as it is porous as well as organic material. While Composites are UV stabilized and lose only shine after prolonged sun exposure after decades of use.

Splintering

Timber is a fibrous material and when dried out these fibres can peel away to form splinters. These can be dangerous for children's and pets especially. While Composites are made of fibres too but with their bonding with plastic makes them completely splinter-free and safe to use.

Easy to transport and install

Composites are more lights, easy to handle and subsequently easier to maintain too. And are a more ideal replacement of the traditional wood for practical application such as utility pools. Their transport cost is less and requires simple instructions to follow for their installation. Whereas traditional wood is heavy, require more cost to transport and install to be used purposely.

Maintenance

One factor that gives Composites huge advantage is their maintenance. Composites decking require minimum maintenance with soap and wash twice or thrice a week. Whereas Timber based work needs regular upkeep to prolong its use. Oiling, sealing, staining, and painting are must to keep timber in the right shape for a longer duration. Composites come with high-quality finishing whereas Timber based are more natural and require a lot of maintenance.
