The CNA bridge program provides young students who are interested in nursing with the opportunity to develop their nursing prowess and establish a foundation of healthcare expertise. Meeting four days a week at the Decatur Public Library, students attend classes, access textbooks and materials, and gain valuable nursing knowledge, all for free. This program has been an incredible opportunity for many students to begin their nursing careers by removing obstacles that may have otherwise diminished their opportunities. Healthcare facilities also benefit from these classes, which ultimately seek to provide them with a larger pool of qualified nursing candidates. Before beginning the CNA program, all the students completed an Intro to Healthcare course, which served as both preparation for the CNA class and the first step towards their career aspirations.

In addition to the classes mentioned above, first year students in the Beyond Boundaries Program will be required to complete two Beyond Boundaries courses (one in the Fall and one in the Spring), for which they will have priority enrollment.

Environmental inequalities threaten the health and well-being of low-income communities and communities of color who are increasingly on the frontlines in the fight against climate change, air and water pollution, food security, and many other urgent environmental problems. Like many urban areas, the St. Louis region faces egregious social, environmental and health disparities. In this course, we critically examine the role of racism and other structural policy inequalities that produce unequal environments and how those unequal environments contribute to public health disparities in St. Louis and beyond. We explore the use of public health data, policy options, and case studies that allow for evidence-based solutions to environmental racism and improved population health. This course that combines small group sessions, case studies and speakers working on environmental justice in the St. Louis region. We provide students with interdisciplinary perspectives and methods, challenging them to address racism and environmental policy through a population health lens. Student learning will be assessed through case studies, reflections, online assignments, and exams.

This class examines the subject of sustainability from multiple perspectives to gain an appreciation for its interconnected environmental, social, and economic dimensions. We explore foundational concepts and principles through a variety of activities and assignments, including readings, discussions, group work, case studies, presentations, and projects. The goal is to integrate knowledge and methods from different disciplines to achieve a holistic understanding of sustainability problems and solutions.

Decisions that impact the daily lives of people are often made without consideration of the lived experience of those impacted, resulting in harm and eroded trust. Empathy is a critical tool for understanding the lived experience of others and creating better quality of life for all people. This course will introduce the integration of empathy into decisions through the methods, processes, and approaches used in design and social work. Students will examine how empathy is incorporated into the development and implementation of new solutions to wicked problems through conversations with experts in health, law, and business; community-based team projects; and reflection and discussion. Course activities will build cohort connections.

Although Bridge classes vary in terms of content, they each share the goals of fostering community, preparing students for the pace and rigor of the quarter system, and teaching or honing effective study habits and other essential skills that transcend disciplines. Bridge courses are taken Pass/No Pass. Unless they choose not to participate, Bridge students are automatically enrolled in the Arch Scholars Peer Mentoring program starting in the fall quarter.

In addition to coursework, Bridge students will participate in social hangouts with their classmates led by the program counselors. Counselors are former program participants who will give you honest, meaningful advice on how to succeed at Northwestern University. In these conversations you will learn more about the true college experience, your classmates, and yourself.

Operations Bridge Manager (formerly known as Operations Manager i) is the core component of the Micro Focus Operations Bridge solution. This five-day, entry level, instructor-led training course offers technical personnel, who are new to Operations Bridge and Operations Bridge Manager, the opportunity to develop hands-on experience in applying the fundamental principles, methodologies, and capabilities for managing events using OBM.
