The Breville BTA820XL wins this list as the best choice for a compact, precise toaster that handles thick artisanal bread with ease. • Breville BMO850BSS — best for precision reheating and even cooking; pick this if you rely on sensor technology to automatically adjust power levels so food doesn't dry out during reheat cycles.
• Breville BOV950BSS — best for tech-savvy chefs seeking automation; pick this if you want voice activation and guided recipe integration that handles complex multi-step cooking without constant monitoring.
This die-cast smart toaster is designed for the person who takes their morning routine seriously but has limited counter space. It is a two-slice unit built with brushed stainless steel, making it durable and visually consistent with high-end kitchen appliances. The core value here lies in its ability to handle irregular shapes. Unlike standard toasters that struggle with thick slices of sourdough or dense bagels, the BTA820XL features extra-wide slots that accommodate these items without jamming.
What sets this model apart is the "Lift & Look" feature. Instead of waiting for a cycle to finish and risking burnt edges, you can press a button to pause the mechanism and inspect the toast's color before committing to the full cycle. This gives you actual control over the browning process rather than relying on a timer. The "A Bit More" button is equally practical for those days when you decide halfway through that you prefer your crust just a shade darker.
For daily use, the variable browning control allows you to dial in the exact shade you prefer, from light golden to deep brown. The LED indicator keeps you informed about how much time remains, removing the anxiety of wondering if the machine has stalled. Cleaning is straightforward thanks to a pull-out crumb tray at the front, which prevents crumbs from falling into the heating elements or onto the counter below.
The main trade-off is its capacity. Since it only holds two slices, it is not suitable for households where everyone needs breakfast simultaneously. You will have to toast in batches if you are feeding four people. However, for a couple or a single person, or as a secondary appliance for quick snacks, its precision and compact design make it an essential tool that delivers consistent results every single time.
The Smart Oven Pro is a powerhouse countertop appliance that aims to replace your toaster, microwave, and small oven. It utilizes an Element iQ system with five independent quartz elements to direct heat exactly where it is needed. This intelligent distribution means you get faster preheats and more even cooking than traditional convection ovens found in big kitchen cabinets. The 10 preset cooking functions cover almost every basic culinary task, from toasting and broiling to baking and roasting.
One of the most compelling features for home cooks is the slow cook function. You can set the oven to low temperatures for up to 10 hours, allowing flavors to meld slowly before the unit automatically switches to keep warm. This turns a countertop device into a viable alternative to a slow cooker for stews and braises. The interior is spacious enough to hold a 13-inch pizza, a whole roast chicken, or a 9-cup muffin tray, making it capable of handling family-sized meals.
Daily usage is intuitive thanks to the LCD display, which clearly shows the selected function and countdown timer. An integrated oven light turns on automatically at the end of the cycle, so you don't have to open the door and let the heat escape just to check on your food. The convection setting is particularly effective, circulating hot air to reduce cooking times by up to 30 percent compared to conventional methods.
However, the sheer size of this unit is its primary drawback. It is a substantial appliance that requires a significant amount of counter real estate. If your kitchen is small or you lack deep counters, fitting this oven might be challenging. Additionally, while it does many things well, it is not quite as specialized for heavy-duty air frying as some newer, more aggressive models. Still, for general versatility and reliable performance, it stands out as a robust workhorse.
This multi-cooker bridges the gap between speed and depth of flavor. It is engineered to manage both fast pressure cooking and slow simmering modes within the same vessel. The dual sensors located at the top and bottom of the 6-quart bowl allow the machine to automatically adjust temperature and pressure, ensuring that whether you are searing meat under pressure or letting a stew bubble away, the conditions remain optimal. It eliminates the guesswork often associated with switching between different pots.

The cleaning process is surprisingly simple for such a complex machine. The lid is removable and dishwasher safe, and the ceramic-coated cooking bowl doubles as a serving dish. This ceramic coating is free from PFOA and PTFE, appealing to those who prioritize non-toxic materials. The auto steam release setting is a standout safety feature; it handles the pressure release automatically using Quick, Pulse, or Natural methods, keeping your hands safe from escaping steam.
In everyday scenarios, this device shines when you need dinner ready quickly but don't want to sacrifice the tenderness of a long-cooked meal. You can sear vegetables, add broth and meat, and switch to pressure mode to finish in minutes. Alternatively, you can set it for a low-and-slow braise that develops rich flavors overnight. The LCD display provides clear feedback on pressure levels, temperature, and remaining time, so you always know what is happening inside the pot.
The trade-off lies in its bulk and weight. It also occupies a good portion of your counter space permanently. Furthermore, while it offers extensive functionality, the learning curve for mastering the various pressure settings and release methods can be steep for first-time users. Despite this, its ability to deliver restaurant-quality textures in a fraction of the time makes it a valuable addition for serious home cooks.
The Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro represents a significant step up in versatility, combining the capabilities of a full-sized oven with advanced air frying and dehydration technology. With 13 cooking functions, it covers everything from proofing dough to dehydrating fruit slices. The Super Convection technology uses a two-speed fan to maximize airflow, which is critical for achieving that crispy exterior on fried foods without submerging them in oil. This creates a tailored cooking environment that eliminates cold spots for uniform results.
The interior capacity is genuinely impressive, measuring large enough to fit a 14-pound turkey or a 9x13 inch pan. This makes it suitable for holiday cooking or preparing large batches of food for meal prep. The Element iQ system ensures that power is directed efficiently, meaning you get precise temperature control whether you are baking delicate cookies or roasting a tough cut of meat. The inclusion of a dehydrate function adds another layer of utility, allowing you to make healthy snacks like apple chips or beef jerky right on the counter.
Using this oven feels modern and responsive. The LCD interface guides you through the 13 presets, and the interior light lets you monitor progress without interrupting the cooking cycle. The air fry setting specifically targets the creation of golden, crispy favorites like French fries and wings, effectively replacing the need for a standalone air fryer basket. The ability to dehydrate up to four trays at once further expands its utility for preserving seasonal produce.
The main compromise is the physical footprint. This is a large, heavy appliance that demands a permanent spot on your counter. It is not designed to be tucked away in a cabinet and pulled out occasionally. Additionally, the complexity of having 13 functions might feel overwhelming to someone who only wants to toast bread or bake a cake. For those who appreciate maximum capability and have the space to accommodate it, however, it is a formidable tool.
This compact microwave is designed for efficiency in smaller living spaces without compromising on essential features. It boasts a 25-liter capacity, which is generous for its external footprint, making it ideal for apartments or offices where every square inch counts. The standout feature here is the soft-close door, which operates 80% quieter than standard microwave doors. This prevents the annoying slamming sound that can disturb others or startle pets, contributing to a calmer kitchen environment.
Operationally, the BMO650SIL focuses on convenience with its easy shortcuts and food menu. One-touch buttons handle common tasks like reheating popcorn, beverages, or defrosting vegetables. The defrost function is particularly thoughtful, gently thawing food without overheating the edges, which preserves texture and quality. The child lock feature adds a layer of security for families with young children, preventing accidental changes to settings or unintended operation.
The quiet operation extends beyond the door; the unit runs 50% quieter during the heating cycle itself. This is achieved through engineering that minimizes vibration and noise, making it pleasant to use even when the kitchen is part of an open-plan living area. The ability to adjust power levels manually gives you control over cooking intensity, while the mute button allows you to silence the beep alerts entirely if desired.
While this model excels in compactness and noise reduction, it lacks some of the advanced sensor technologies found in higher-end models. It relies more on manual input and preset shortcuts rather than automatic detection of food density. If you frequently cook complex dishes that require precise humidity or steam control, this unit might feel a bit basic. However, for daily reheating, defrosting, and simple cooking in a small space, it is a reliable and unobtrusive solution.
The Smart Oven Air Fryer strikes a balance between high performance and manageable size. It brings the benefits of super convection and air frying to a countertop oven that is slightly more compact than the flagship Pro models. With 11 cooking functions, it handles the essentials like toasting, baking, broiling, and roasting, while adding the popular air fry capability. The Element iQ system ensures that heat is distributed evenly, preventing the uneven browning that plagues cheaper ovens.
The dedicated air fry setting utilizes higher temperatures combined with maximized airflow to produce crispy, golden results. This allows you to prepare guilt-free versions of family favorites like chicken wings and french fries without the mess of deep frying. The interior dimensions are sufficient for six slices of bread or a 13-inch pizza, making it practical for small to medium-sized households. The slow cook function is also present, offering flexibility for long-simmered dishes.
Daily use is streamlined by the LCD display, which clearly indicates pre-heat status and countdown timers. The interior light helps you track progress without opening the door, maintaining consistent internal temperatures. The ability to swap out components like the crumb tray and rack simplifies maintenance, and the overall build quality feels sturdy and professional. It serves as a great middle ground for those who want air frying capabilities but do not need the massive capacity of the largest ovens.
The limitation here is that it sacrifices some of the extreme capacity found in the larger Pro models. If you regularly cook for large groups or need to fit a very large turkey, this unit might feel cramped. The number of functions is also slightly lower than the top-tier options, though it covers all the bases for most home cooks. For the average household looking to save counter space while retaining high-end cooking features, this is a highly rational choice.
This microwave introduces Sensor iQ technology to automate the cooking process, removing much of the guesswork from reheating and defrosting. It features 15 in-built smart presets that detect steam and adjust power levels accordingly. The Smart Reheat function, for instance, senses the moisture released by the food and sets the specific time and power needed to deliver delicious results without drying out the meal. This level of automation is rare in microwaves and significantly improves the consistency of heated leftovers.
The Power Smoothing Inverter is another key innovation. Unlike traditional microwaves that pulse power on and off to achieve lower wattage, this unit delivers smooth, continuous power. This ensures even heating throughout the food, preventing hot spots and cold centers. Whether you are reheating a slice of pizza, a bowl of soup, or a lasagna, the result is uniformly warm and moist. The soft-close door remains a premium feature, operating quietly to maintain a peaceful kitchen atmosphere.
Practicality is enhanced by the "A Bit More" button, which lets you add extra time instantly without restarting the entire cycle. The shortcuts panel on the inside door provides quick access to common tasks like melting chocolate or softening butter. Child lock protection ensures safety, while the mute button allows for silent operation when necessary. The design is sleek and modern, fitting well into contemporary kitchens.
The trade-off is primarily the price point relative to basic models, given the advanced technology involved. While the features are excellent, users who prefer manual control over automated sensors might find the presets less flexible. Additionally, the larger size compared to the compact BMO650SIL means it requires more counter space. However, for those who value precision and convenience in their daily reheating routines, the investment pays off in consistently better food quality.
The Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro is the pinnacle of connected kitchen technology, offering a seamless blend of hardware and software. It features 13 pre-set smart cooking functions and integrates with the Breville+ app to provide over 1000 guided recipes. This connectivity allows the oven to guide you through complex cooking processes, moving smoothly between modes like baking, roasting, and air frying without user intervention. The Element iQ system ensures precise temperature control, eliminating cold spots for perfectly cooked food every time.
Voice activation is a game-changer for multitasking cooks. You can command the oven to bake or air fry using Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, freeing your hands when they are covered in flour or grease. The "Joule Autopilot" feature takes this further by automating multi-event cooking experiences, handling the tricky parts of a recipe so you can focus on the fun aspects of cooking. Access to expert-tested recipes from renowned culinary brands adds a layer of educational value that transforms the oven into a cooking coach.
The air fry and dehydrate presets are highly refined, utilizing precise heat control and maximized airflow to create crispy favorites and preserve fruits and vegetables. The interior is spacious enough to handle large cuts of meat and multiple trays of dehydrating food. The build quality is exceptional, with a brushed stainless steel finish that resists fingerprints and looks professional. The integration of live classes and cook guides makes it an interactive tool rather than just an appliance.
The primary downside is the reliance on technology and internet connectivity. If your Wi-Fi goes down, you lose access to the guided recipes and voice commands, though the basic functions should still work. The unit is also quite large and heavy, requiring a dedicated spot on your counter. For enthusiasts who love trying new recipes and want a futuristic cooking experience, it is unmatched. However, for those who prefer simplicity and analog controls, the complexity might be unnecessary.
