History of the academy

Tamarindo Jiu Jitsu Academy grew organically when Heitor Abrahao arrived in Tamarindo in 2010. He quickly met a group of beginners who were excited to have a black belt in town to teach them, so they rented a space and put down some mats. As Heitor and his family became part of the local community and fell in love with the area, Heitor thought more about developing his simple studio.

In 2012 the Abrahao family spent some time in Brazil and the USA. They returned to Costa Rica in 2013 where Heitor resumed the kids classes & adult training. In 2016 Heitor decided to move his gym to a more convenient location where families throughout Northern Guanacaste would have better access. Today Heitor has a full schedule of classes with a growing number of students, in a professional, air-conditioned space and top quality mats.
