Hello @Saamm, thank you for bringing this to our attention. Are you talking about Brave help center ? Whenever you click on settings by default it takes you to the get started page. Would you mind sharing a screenshot so we can have a better understanding. Thanks in advance.

Hi @lukrisi, Welcome to Community!

Can you try quitting Brave, reopening it and entering brave://settings/ into the url. I want to see if you get the same screen without clicking the Edit Preferences button.

@spartan21 @BaconSpartan,

Can you try creating a new profile in the browser and test to see if the browser crashes the same way when using the new profile and navigating to or changing any settings? Ensure that you only have one window open (the one with the new profile) when performing this test.

Just to confirm, did you try the troubleshoot solution I shared above?

There is another workaround with resetting your brave://flags if you are unable to launch Brave. See instructions below.

Do let me know if this works out for you.

@joschaf So actually you can use sync across all devices for brave. Menu--> Sync--Add device This will transfer your bookmarks and other settings are being added to sync. I will get back with you on your question about custom search engines for mac. Apologies for not catching the article for Windows.

@joschaf This issue is an open ticket for sync. The dev team is working on an option in sync to capture all user settings and transfer to each device. Currently sync only supports bookmarks. Custom search engines also have an open PR but it is on the bottom of the features list to be added. Based on demand.

@Awesome14,

Yes, you should be able to simply grab everything from ~/.config/brave into ~/.config on your new/upgraded OS and get all you information carried over. Please let me know if this does not work for you.

If I may ask, what verison of Brave are you using, and what is the version number? Can you also confirm for me if this issue is just in regard to your Shield settings? Does messing with the Shield settings on each website not also add that website to the relevant section in your settings?

To reset the theme I went to Settings > Appearance > Theme > Reset to default

To reset my settings I went to SEttings > Additional settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their original defaults

Hi all - my PC died on me and l had to install Brave on a new PC. For the moment, I cannot clone the old drive to be my new startup drive. So I have access to the old files but I am using a new install of Brave. Is there any way to import bookmarks, extensions, settings from the old files?

Description of the issue:

When going in the Settings>>Import bookmarks and settings to make an attempt to import from another browser the Brave browser crashes completely as soon as I click the setting.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

Yes been using for awhile and problem did not just arise. I still use it for certain things that give higher crypto faucet rewards like which is actually how I found out about Brave Browser. I have always had this problem and eventually gave up trying to solve it. Instead of using the browser as default 100% of the time browser I just went back to using Google Chrome for my default browser since I did not want to deal with the headaches of using Brave Browser without the settings imported. I have had Brave installed for about 3 months give or take and I always remember the import setting not working since I had it. But since I found out that you get more rewards in BAT crypto the more you use Brave I would like to make it my default use all the time browser now. Besides the rewards I also like the privacy structure within it and key concepts of it.

The passwords one seems to work fine, but trying to import bookmarks crashes all the same whether it be from the settings menu, from the settings page, or from clicking the import option on my empty bookmarks bar.

It appears that the GUI link to brave://settings/handlers is hidden in the Site Setting sub-menu (I spent 10 minutes looking for it, and finally had to look up and type in the file path).

While communications are encrypted between the Brave browser and Brave Talk servers via transport layer encryption, they are not encrypted on the server during a call, unless you enable Video Bridge Encryption (VBE). Additional security options are available to you in the settings menu once you initiate a call. These include:

We use a service called Backtrace.io to store the reports. You can choose whether to send us these reports. Even if you have chosen to send reports in the past, you can turn off future reports in settings.

By submitting a web compatibility report, you have the option to include certain details to assist us in analyzing and addressing compatibility issues effectively. These details may include your contact information (which is optional), language settings, the address of the website experiencing compatibility concerns, your browser version number, Shields settings, and VPN status. It is important to note that providing this information is entirely voluntary. Submitted data will be deleted from Brave servers after 30 days.

While I was cleaning my computer, I removed 'Brave Software' folder in C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\ and after removing it, I realized that Brave saves all of the settings and data in that folder. I lost my bookmarks, extensions ,Autofill data, passwords and BATs. Is there anyway to restore them? Can a recovery program , recover this folder?

Finally, go to Brave Browser settings and click New Tab Page on the left. Use the drop-down menu on the right to change the default new tab page from Dashboard view to any other website or a blank page.

I've had a look through the different ways of doing this in bulk - the settings ui doesn't allow it, manually editing the Secure Preferences file (the only one I've found that has this particular setting in it) just causes the extension to remove itself from Brave.

I'd like to report that HubSpot Gmail extension not working on newest version of Brave browser. In my Gmail I can just see button to reload Gmail and info "Sorry. It looks like your browser settings are blocking HubSpot Sales.". I check it also with clean, new installation of Brave browser with disabled any blockers at Gmail and Hubspot pages.

Most Chrome plugins work directly in Brave in my experience, but it's Brave's more aggressive privacy settings that cause the issue. (Which is why we're all using Brave anyway.) I was able to get it working by doing the following...

Just keep in mind this will now allow HubSpot bypass privacy settings with requests from that site. Not sure if it works 100% yet, but I was able to get it to sign in and connect to my Inbox after doing this. It is reporting some trackers are being blocked, not sure if I'll have to enable those or not, but you can see those in the Shields Up area.

I'm using Ubuntu 22.04 and have tried to uninstall both brave-browser and brave-keyring, but after reinstalling it , Brave remembered all the configurations I had set (such as bookmarks and favorited pages) then of course the problem persists.

Hi,

I jumped over from Lastpass and am loving it so far.

Only thing really annoying is the time for the auto lock in the brave browser.

It keeps asking me for my masterpassword, and that is a very secure password and I don't want to enter this several times per day or even hour.

Ok, now I have got it. The Extension pointed me to the "App", and I was constantly checking the iPhone app settings. But the setting is to be applied in the desktop application. This totally makes sense now.

The only thing I still have to complain is that there is only one setting for Auto-lock on "Sleep, Screensaver, User Switch". It would be great to have different settings for all these options or even better, having the option to set timers for each of them...

But it's not that simple. By going back to the Settings menu -- or accessing it directly by typing chrome://settings into your address bar -- you'll see an entire list of options on the left, and each of them have privacy-related options to enable or disable. Listing them all would require an article of its own, but here are a few key settings to get you started.

You'll be offered three settings to choose from: Basic, Balanced and Strict. By default, Edge uses the Balanced setting, which blocks trackers from sites you haven't visited while still being lenient enough to save most sites from some of the loading problems that may come with tighter security. Likewise, Edge's Strict setting may interfere with how some sites behave, but will block the greatest number of trackers. Even the Basic setting will still block trackers used for crypto mining and fingerprinting.

Depending on your settings, Edge may send your browsing history and diagnostic data to Microsoft. If you want to prevent that from happening, you can go to Privacy, search, and services from the Settings menu and disable Help improve Microsoft products by sending optional diagnostic data about how you use the browser, websites you visit, and crash reports.

Like Tor Browser, Mullvad Browser is designed to prevent fingerprinting by making your browser fingerprint identical to all other Mullvad Browser users, and it includes default settings and extensions that are automatically configured by the default security levels: Standard, Safer and Safest. Therefore, it is imperative that you do not modify the browser at all outside adjusting the default security levels. Other modifications would make your fingerprint unique, defeating the purpose of using this browser. If you want to configure your browser more heavily and fingerprinting is not a concern for you, we recommend Firefox instead. 2351a5e196
